The cardiac cath lab physician assistant is a licensed provider who will be responsible for all aspects of pre, intra, and post procedure care of interventional cardiology patients. This includes, but is not limited to, pre-procedure assessment, informed consent, sedation assessment, assisting with procedures, post-procedure management, and discharge education. The PA will first assist in all types of procedures performed in the cardiac cath lab and will be comfortable with equipment required for the procedures. The PA will act as the responding clinician for patients on the PA Cath Service with responsibilities including admission H&P, daily rounds, progress notes, and discharge summaries. The PA must have knowledge of the most common diagnoses admitted to the Interventional Cardiology service, demonstrate competency to effectively diagnose, formulate an appropriate treatment plan, and implement the plan in conjunction with the attending physician. The physician assistant will be responsible for completing and maintaining procedural sedation training annually and completing fluoroscopic training and certification within 18 months of hire. While the PA can expect a relatively predictable work schedule, schedule variations may occur to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department. The position will include weekend and holiday coverage planned in advance. PA may be asked to take call, pick up additional shifts, work variable hours, and/or provide backup coverage as needed.

Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician in their role as testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Under general supervision, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT II), in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. -Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;

Responsible for the testing of laboratory specimens and the reporting of results in all areas of the core laboratory. Automation and middle ware experience a plus. Follows laboratory policies and procedures and maintains quality control practices in the laboratory.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. 1. Specimen Collection: (a) Collects blood sample by using appropriate venipuncture skills in various situations, different age groups (e.g.: adult, pediatric and neonatal population), (b) demonstrates proper professional conduct and (c) follows specific sample collection techniques as per department protocol.
a. Achieves 95% success rate in venipuncture without complications.
b. Ensures appropriate comfort level for the patients throughout the process.
c. Effectively communicates to the supervisor and to other department personnel any difficulties or problems with specimen collection.
2. Specimen Receiving and Processing: Receives specimen in the computer, follows department protocol in redistributing specimen samples within the different areas of lab and completes specimen processing to the testing stage e.g.: centrifugation, packaging, storage, etc.
a. Document the receipt of specimens in an accurate and timely manner in the computer and ensures redistribution of specimens to appropriate destination
b. Prioritizes specimen distribution as need e.g. STAT or CSF samples.
c. Completes the task of specimen preparation for testing within the standard period of time and documents any irregularities encountered during the process.
3. Specimen Preparation & Distribution: (a) Evaluates the specimen for sample integrity, any pretreatment and prepares solutions and reagents for use. (b) Routes specimens to appropriate reference labs as per protocol.
a. Checks specimen integrity, and documents any pretreatment or any additional steps followed (e.g.: warming blood in case of agglutination) as needed to achieve appropriate outcome.
b. Develops mechanisms to address requests for uncommon lab tests.
c. When implementing new system, informs all the personnel involved of the process created.
4. Assessment: Completes the assessment of instrument and reagent function by (a) following QC/Calibration protocol, (b) recording and documenting the various steps, (c) performing daily/weekly maintenance as per department/manufacturers recommendations
Ensures appropriate QC/Calibrations check as per CLIA standards by:
a. documenting acceptable limits and identifying problem areas
b. maintaining appropriate records of QC/remedial action performed
c. communicating with the supervisor QC irregularities, as per protocol
d. documenting all the maintenance procedures in a standardized format.
5. Planning & Performance of Tests: Performs tests with precision and accuracy. Knows critical values, verifies and records all test results before broadcasting and keeps inventory list updated.
a. Ensures accurate test results, in a timely manner, following department turn-around-time protocol.
b. Recognizes abnormal or unusual outcomes and initiates investigation of the process, such as (1) reviewing previous results (2) consulting with supervisor/Pathologist before broadcasting results.
c. Implements trouble shooting guide for instrument malfunction and completes the task with technical support as much as possible.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: o Performs lab testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation. o Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results.
o Calls work lists on the computer, does editing of results and data enters test results.
o Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any “rare and improbable” test results to the attention of a supervisor.
o Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
o Reviews daily specimen management reports.
o Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
o Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
o Performs maintenance on the automated Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis instrumentation as needed.
o Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed.
o Data enters results into the computer.
o Ensures that QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to supervisor.
o Reviews work lists and work from automated analyzers to ensure accuracy and timely reporting of patient results.
o Performs differentials and urine sediments as needed.
o Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities.
o Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing.

Opportunity
The Molecular/Medical Laboratory Technologist I performs laboratory analysis on clinical specimens using established laboratory procedures. Duties include but are not limited to; processing of specimens, performance of moderate, and highly complex analytical testing, establishing performing and documenting quality assurance, quality control, equipment maintenance, and accurately documenting all work performed under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director. Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the General/Technical Supervisor, you will be supporting the Clinical Laboratory in processing of clinical specimens. Duties include::
Effectively communicates via written, verbal, face-to-face, telephone, and computer methods.
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
Maintains CAP/CLIA compliance.
Maintains quality assurance and quality control programs, taking corrective action when necessary.
Follow lab procedures for specimen processing.

Understands and recognizes laboratory information system alerts and flags and takes the appropriate action.

Assists in training new employees.
Performs moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes with moderate supervision. Interprets problems with specimens which meet the rejection criteria for unacceptable samples. Makes the decision to reject a sample and request recollection to ensure validity of results.
Operates laboratory instruments and ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment.
Completes and documents required maintenance activities on equipment, recognizes and elevates potential issues reporting service needs to leadership for resolution.
Performs quality control procedures as specified and maintains quality control records and documentation necessary to meet the standards of accrediting agencies.
Understands appropriate specimen collection, handling and transport procedures.
Prepares specimens for analysis and determines acceptability of samples within guidelines.
Assists in developing procedures for specimen collection, handling and transport to maintain specimen integrity and viability.
Validates acceptability of test results by review of test parameters.
Identifies the technical, instrumental and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
Monitors quality assurance and assists in data collection and preparation of QA indicators.
Performs internal and external proficiency testing. Handles proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient samples.
Maintains clean and orderly work area. Cleans bench surfaces and equipment each shift or after contamination or spill.
Meets work product output expectations maintaining all section turn-around times.
Participates in continuing education and staff meetings. Prepares and presents continuing education programs for department personnel as requested. Responsible for own professional development.
Applies step by step thinking, problem solving and critical thinking patterns.
Contributes to design, research, review and writing of laboratory manuals. Remains informed of procedure updates and changes.
Complies with safety and hazard regulations as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory Safety Manual. Failure to follow safety protocols will result in disciplinary action. Understands, maintains and enforces safety guidelines.
Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality. Maintains ethical standards in the performance of testing and in interactions with patients, co-workers and other health care professionals.
Demonstrates adaptability by embracing changes in the laboratory with a positive attitude.
Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology or in the chemical, molecular, or biological sciences; or Associates degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. Must satisfy the education requirements of the applicable certifying agency, i.e. CAP.
Appropriate certification from one of the nationally recognized certification agencies, i.e. CAP or state licensure that has been determined to be equivalent. Note: This is a requirement for the title Medical Laboratory Technologist I only.

Job Responsibilities
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

In This Role:

Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).

Essential Functions
Receive incoming urine specimens; open, count, and sort specimens
Ensure specimen integrity by verifying that specimens are labeled appropriately and that identifying information on the specimen matches identifying information on accompanying documentation and/or electronic orders
Accession urine specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) by entering patient data, specimen information, medication lists, ordered tests, and point-of-care results into the LIS - manual data entry may be required for some specimens
Correctly identify specimens that do not meet criteria for testing and specimens that need to be placed on hold for missing information
Pipet (aliquot) accessioned urine specimens into appropriate test tubes and 96-well plates to prepare for testing and storage
Dispose of urine specimens that have reached their retention date
Prepare urine specimens, calibrators, and quality controls for testing using established standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Document room temperature, humidity levels, reagents, and controls per CLIA and CAP regulations
Aid in routine and special projects (AMR studies, validations, proficiency testing, CAP inspections, etc.) that arise throughout the year
Oversee the daily operation of EIA instrument(s) for processing of urine specimens for toxicology
Prepare and run daily Calibrations, Pre-QCs, and Post-QCs for EIA instrument(s)

Analyze data from EIA to ensure complete testing. Identify and prepare specimens needing reruns

Perform and document required daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance for EIA instrument(s) following the established maintenance schedule. Schedule preventative maintenance (PM) when necessary, utilizing instrument service contracts and agreements.
Recognize and help troubleshoot issues with the EIA instrument(s)
Maintain inventory for all EIA supplies including (but not limited to) receipt and filing of ordered supplies; dispose of packaging
Print and file daily printouts for Calibrations, Pre-QCs, and Post-QCs, making appropriate notations
Comply with quality assurance procedures, participating in proficiency testing and competency evaluation throughout the year.
