Candidate Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Geology, Chemistry, Engineering or related field
2-5 years' experience of laboratory and field-based technical experience, including sample collection and analysis
Experience with quality assurance of data and troubleshooting
Experience and or willing to learn to work with highly specialized lab equipment
Strong administrative skills, willing to liaise with staff at multiple levels on-site and in-office
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with analytical instrumentation and laboratory procedures associated with water, rock, and gas samples, but training will be provided on the specific instrumentation listed in the Job Responsibilities section below
Be able to drive a mobile lab trailer to and from sites
Experience handling hazmat materials/samples
Job Responsibilities
Perform analytical laboratory work in both the main laboratory located in Columbus, Ohio and in a field-based mobile laboratory environment
Responsible for sample collection of drill cuttings, gas, and liquids while on-site in the field
Perform analysis of samples using multiple laboratory instruments, maintaining the field laboratory and liaising with various on-site and office personnel
Learn and independently operate a range of analytical instrumentation and techniques for gas and liquid analysis in both the main and mobile chemistry laboratories, including gas chromatography, residual gas mass spectrometry, ion chromatography, and proprietary Koloma technologies
Responsible for quality assurance and control of analytical instrumentation and affiliated equipment, including leak checking, analyzing standards and blanks, instrument troubleshooting, and other lab related upkeep and maintenance
Learn and execute procedures supporting data collection, data processing, interpretation, and report generation, while effectively communicating significant data changes to field and laboratory geologists
Provide support for sample preparation and transportation, ensuring sample integrity
Work closely with Field Geologist and mudlogger, providing on-site support
Perform other duties as assigned

Summary:
The duties of this position includes but is not limited to accurate, precise, and timely patient test results for the diagnosis and management of human illness. Position utilizes automation and computerization, and manual methods. Responsible for quality control and instrument operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Examples include but are not limited to: The performance of complex analysis of all body fluids and tissues. Determining the reliability of all analytic data before releasing as patient measurement for diagnosis and treatment. Utilizing knowledge of medical correlation of data, laboratory parameters, physiologic factors, medication effects, and specific medical treatments to assess the validity of laboratory data. Using appropriate testing techniques to evaluate new testing methodologies and practices. Demonstrating safety and infection control practices. Assist in gathering test data for evaluation of new methods and installation of equipment.
* 15% Customer service to clinicians and clients. Must be comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff, clinical staff, and all laboratory associates. Must be able to communicate with patients and their families, using service recovery when necessary.
* 20% Quality assurance functions and equipment maintenance functions. Performs quality control checks on each procedure, equipment, reagents, stains, etc. Documents and interprets all QC data used by technologists to determine validity of patient results and verify instrument performance. Documents and reviews maintenance logs to assure optimum system performance, guaranteeing valid data and eliminating costly, time-consuming equipment failures.
* 5% Continuing Education and Competencies. Remains current in field. Trains new employees and students. Maintains competencies, mandatory educational requirements (ACE).
* 5% Miscellaneous duties. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Tuesday - Saturday Schedule
* Laboratory Support
* Maintain clean laboratory by discarding waste and cleaning and sanitizing countertops, walls, floors, shelves, equipment, sinks, water baths etc using cleaning solvents
* Maintain clean laboratory by properly storing chemicals, reagents, and supplies. Maintain adequate stock of these materials
* Clean and decontaminate equipment, glassware, metal instruments, sinks water baths, tables, and test panels, using solvents, water, acetone bath, and cloth or hot-air drier, brushes, rags, etc
* Read plates and tubes, as required, to determine the number of organisms in the sample
* Record findings on worksheet for verification
* Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be tracked
* Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed
* Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process
* Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending
* Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of time and temperature
* Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required
* Sterilize materials needed for analysis. Autoclave plates before discarding
* Perform food poisoning, pH and other analysis tests on sample when requested by the client
* Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence
* Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities
* Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis
* Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process
* Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized
* Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required
* Adhere to all safety policies

YOUR PROFILE
Tuesday - Saturday Schedule
Associates degree or equivalent work experience and 1+ year relevant work; or, Bachelor's degree required. The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.
Required skills: Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.

Key Responsibilities
Supervise day-to-day operations of the microbiology section, including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and molecular testing as applicable
