Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under supervision by the section chief technologist. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulative requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Troubleshoots and corrects out of range results in a timely manner. + Performs instrument preventative maintenance procedures on a daily, weekly , and monthly basis as required and reports any malfunctions to the section supervisor. + Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions in a timely manner and attempts to correct problems by maintenance, repair, part replacement, or notifying the instrument manufacturer. + Effectively operate the Laboratory computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions. + Performs proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner. + Communicates all instrument malfunctions, QC problems, unusual patient results, and unusual events to the section or shift supervisor. + Accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties.
