$17.70 per hour, 15-20 hours per week with at least one year commitment, not to exceed 1,560 hours per year.
* Coordinate and participate with field team for sample collection

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* Major in Science or Engineering, preferably environmental sciences, chemistry, or related major.
* Available between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm during weekdays;
* Willingness to work occasional extended hours after 4:00pm and weekends if necessary;
* Experience in wet chemistry laboratory techniques highly preferred
* Proficiency in EXCEL and Word;
* A valid driver's license and the ability to meet requirements to operate a Gwinnett County vehicle.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Intern has the opportunity to learn during a rotation through our clinical laboratories. This is an opportunity to apply on-campus learning and to gain competency in an active laboratory environment. Interns typically come from affiliated universities, and rotate following their Bachelor’s degree award or during their senior year of a Medical Technology or medical laboratory sciences program. The internship rotation is intended to help prepare for national certification and future employment.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Responsibilities are to learn manual testing, use automation, improve microscopic skills, and apply the principals of calibration, quality control, and quality management.


+ The rotation will include proper collection, preparation, transport, and storage different specimen types


+ During the experience interns will be introduced to accreditation, CLIA regulations, HIPAA, proficiency testing, compliance, the management of different sample types for referral or later testing, document control, and the use of middleware and information system.


+ Interns will learn how to prioritize work to meet service standards.


+ Under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, the intern may be allowed to perform those tasks/duties with which they have become familiar and exhibit competency.


+ Learn and abide by the policies, procedures, and practices of the host organization.
