Responsibilities Theses coding practitioners analyze and abstract patients' health records and assign alpha-numeric coders for each diagnosis and procedure. To perform this task, they must possess expertise in International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). MRT (Coder) may also provide education related to coding and documentations. This is the journey level for this assignment. MRTs (Coder at this level performs the full scope of inpatient and outpatient coding duties. MRTs (Coder) select and assign codes from current versions of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS classification systems to both inpatient and outpatient records. Inpatient duties consist of the performance of a comprehensive review of documentation within the health record to assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for diagnosis, complications/major complication, comorbid/major comorbid conditions, surgery and procedures for accurate assignment of DRGs. Outpatient duties consist of the performance of a comprehensive review of documentation within the health record of accurately assign ICD-10-CM codes for diagnosis and complication, and CPT/HCPCS codes for surgeries, procedures, evaluation and management services, and inpatient professional services. They directly consult with the clinical staff for clarification of conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous clinical data in the health record. Abstract, assign and sequence codes into encoder software to obtain correct DRG, support medical necessity, resolve encoder edits, and ensure codes accurately reflect services rendered. Review provider health record documentation to ensure that it supports diagnostic and procedural codes assigned and is consistent with required medical coding nomenclature. Query clinical staff with documentation requirements to support the coding process. Enter and correct information that has been rejected. Corrects any identified data errors or inconsistencies. Ensure audit findings have been corrected and refiled. Use various computer applications to abstract records, assign codes and record and transmit data. Be a part of our dynamic team and take your career to the next level with Pandya Medical Center! **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:** * Scheduling patient appointments * Answers incoming calls within three rings * Provide excellent customer service to patients and family members. * Communicate in a manner consistent with positive patient relations. * Independently recognize, interpret, and evaluate situations and their level of urgency. * Update patient demographics * Verify patient account and insurance information. * Manage and respond answering service messages and requests * Collecting balances, if not collected, advise the balance will be due at the time of service. * Verify Eligibility, if there is an issue with eligibility, obtain updated information while scheduling appointment. * If requested provider not available, offers to accommodate on another provider schedule * Keeps record of number of calls managed and addressed to the highest customer satisfaction. * Assists in distribution of faxes and scans throughout the day in EMR. * Scans reports / paperwork as needed into the EMR. * Informs manager of any problems and possible alternative solutions. * Maintains a clean work area * Papers are filed and or stored in orderly fashion **Other miscellaneous tasks could include:** * Assist with the orientation and training of other employees. * Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by Providers, Office Managers, and/or Scheduling Supervisor. * Traveling to other locations as needed **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:** * Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques. * Knowledge of computerized scheduling systems. * Knowledge of common office computer programs; Word, Excel, Internet. * Knowledge of healthcare EMR preferred. * Skill in communicating effectively with patients, clinics, and coworkers. * Ability to multitask effectively. * Ability to communicate calmly and compassionately in a high-volume call center. * Adheres to all applicable HIPAA laws and the Pandya Medical Center Confidentiality Statement. * Must be able to work independently or as part of a team. **Education and Experience Required:** * Minimum High School Diploma * Experience working with the public; ability to demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills * Previous medical practice experience strongly preferred Salary range: $16.00 - 18.00/hr Benefit Eligibility - After 90 day waiting period * Aetna Health insurance * Aetna Dental and Vision plans * Aflac Supplemental insurance plans * 401K match plan with up to 4% by Pandya Medical Center * Paid Time Off **Apply for Experienced Medical Scheduler** Please add your resume 10MB limit; .pdf, .doc, and .docx file types are accepted.
