The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, maintaining patient workflow, technical aspects of equipment maintenance, and quality assessment (QA). KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound training program, RDMS Registry in related ultrasound specialty (OB/GYN) required and must maintain the minimum continuing education requirements of the registry and ACR/AIUM as appropriate. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year in an OB/GYN ultrasound setting. REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: This position requires: • the ability to perform the routine procedures and real time techniques of the specialty, including M-mode, pulse and color Doppler, and have a good grasp of fetal and cross-sectional anatomy and medical terminology • the skill set to provide relevant technical information about the exam to the interpreting physician. • familiarity with structured reporting system (currently utilize AS software at Christ Hospital) • customer service and communication skills to interact positively and constructively with staff, patients and physicians This job Posting is for a part time position, three days a week. 8-4:30pm (Monday and Tuesday required) LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: This position requires certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in the appropriate field, must obtain OB/GYN ARDMS status within first 6 months of hire if not already certified. BLS Certification. 1. Performs imaging and procedural duties of an OB/Gyn Sonographer. • Follows testing protocols as established by the Medical Director and related professional standards. • Produces quality study images & data by demonstrating competence and proper use of imaging and accessory equipment. • Prepares patients and provides ultrasound guided assistance to the physician during procedures (SIS procedures). • Assesses the patient's physical, psychosocial, and educational needs, and obtains an appropriate history prior to each test. • Confirms appropriateness of supporting information and documentation for the exam being performed. • Maximizes services and maintains the work flow, performs assignments within the established time duration and actively helps others when needed. • Explains testing procedures to patients, family members and other staff members connected to the care of the patient as needed. 2. Integrates and promotes the Ultrasound functions into the Organization. • Works closely with leadership in efficiently using department resources and staffing to volumes. • Schedules add-on and emergency exams for same day requests following good customer service standards. • Maintains a working knowledge of all Information Systems, including proficiency on the structured reporting and image archival system. • Maintains accurate and timely order entry and exam tracking in the HIS. • Communicates equipment maintenance needs to the supervisor and operates equipment safely and properly. 4. Follows Quality Improvement and Infection Control standards. • Participates in Peer Review • Participates in organizational and departmental process improvement activities. • Engages in department meetings and shares responsibility for agenda. • Maintains departmental compliance to regulatory expectations 5. He/She reviews and discusses the ultrasound findings with the radiologist and a diagnosis is made. Hours: Part-time 11a-11p F/Sa, Su/Th, M/Tu, M/Tu (2 days a week and every 4th weekdend) **Responsibilities And Duties:** 60% Performs various ultrasound examinations. Subjectively interprets information based on judgmental decisions by Ultrasonographers, requiring in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathology. Maintains complete knowledge of wave form physics, i.e., , time gain compensation curves, attenuation factors, etc. , required to set equipment variable properly for appropriate imaging of specific anatomy. Assists Radiologists with performance of invasive procedures. 10% Independently evaluates normal vs. abnormal test results in correlation with patient history, previous examinations, lab results, etc. 10% Independently gives preliminary ultrasound results to attending physicians, surgeons, residents, etc. regarding any vascular ultrasound procedures as determined by site accreditation. 10% Teaches/educates imaging students, medical students and residents in basic scanning methods and instrumentation of ultrasound. 10% Maintains equipment and stocks supplies.
