    GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, perform clinical laboratory procedures in all areas of a clinical laboratory; and report results to a competent medical authority for evaluation for the purpose of diagnosis or treatment; to coordinate the functions of the clinical laboratory with other laboratory functions. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Medical Laboratory Technician II may function as a lead worker over Medical Laboratory Technician I in a training capacity. No formal supervision is exercised by these positions. IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Maintain records and equipment to meet agency inspection requirements, such as the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and CLIA Waived testing and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance. Receive patients; provide verbal instructions regarding sample collection process to be followed prior to, during, and after specimen collections, and prepare and review laboratory slips for required information. Collect blood samples via venipuncture and fingerstick from patients to include babies, children and adults. Calibrate, maintain, and set up equipment for laboratory operations. Maintain clean laboratory equipment and facilities. Perform chemical and mathematical calculations. Prepare and maintain recordkeeping systems such as quality control records, report files, and daily logs of samples and testing procedures. Perform clinical chemistry procedures for diagnosis and evaluation for CLIA Waived testing such as (but not limited to) urinalysis, serum and pregnancy testing, hemoglobin, Fecal Occult Blood, glucose, lead and other tests covered under CLIA Waived testing. Perform diagnostic procedures in urinalysis through use of dipsticks. Ensure pre-analytical quality of specimen collection by verifying patient information and following appropriate procedural guidelines for the collection of specimens via venipuncture, collection cup, etc. Accession and distribute specimen to appropriate section for testing, or appropriate off-site location for testing. Provide timely service in reporting test results to appropriate nursing or physician staff members. Provide timely response to patient requests for lab results. Accessioning and coordinating state and local send outs of clinical and rabies specimen, input data for encounters, state send outs, and local send outs, file patient records and requests appropriately utilizing the EHR. Maintain and prepare orders based on an inventory of supplies and reagents used in the laboratory. Utilize the autoclave for sterilization of equipment and waste. Accession water samples and prepare for Colilert testing. Conduct standard and specialized chemical and microbiological examinations of standard and special samples of raw and treated water using Colilert 18 method. Provide laboratory procedures at various Health Division sites. OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assists in checking medication regardless of packaging system. Counts all narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift. Maintains and cleans the Medication Room, med charts, treatment carts for neatness cleanliness, availability of medications and expired medications. Follows re-fill process for medications. Participates in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiration rates. Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks and hazardous chemicals immediately. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Qualifications: High School diploma/GED Must be 18 years of age. CPR Certification preferred First Aid Certification preferred Previous experience working with seniors preferred.
