The Pathologist Tissue Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to autopsy, surgical pathology, and intraoperative consultations. This role involves preparing bodies for autopsy, dictating clinical summaries, dissecting specimens, and preparing slides for pathologist review.
Responsibilities
Prepare bodies and set up for autopsy, including cleaning post-autopsy.
Dictate gross descriptions and clinical summaries during autopsies.
Dissect and display organs for pathologist examination, and submit tissue sections for processing.
Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens, including dissection and ordering stains per protocol.
Prepare and submit specimens into cassettes.
Prepare tissue for intraoperative consultations and create frozen section slides.
Assist in bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, FNAs, and other studies, and submit smears to the pathologist.
Process pathology samples by verifying patient identification, accessioning specimens, and resolving discrepancies.
Track specimens and prepare them for transportation.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the morgue and cutting room, handle chemical waste, and manage supplies.
Manage overdue reports, file tissue slides and cards, and troubleshoot equipment.
Communicate effectively with patients, clinicians, and hospital staff.
Prepare data and reports for quality assurance activities and maintain departmental records.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in histology and pathology procedures.
Experience with laboratory equipment and tissue sample preparation.
Strong knowledge of biology and chemistry.
Experience with small specimen accessioning and preparation.
Ability to manage and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
An earned associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, or equivalent education.
60 semester hours of relevant coursework, including 24 hours in medical laboratory technology or science courses.
Clinical laboratory training approved by ABHES, NAACLA, or HHS.
At least 3 months of documented laboratory training in high complexity testing specialties.
Work Environment
Work in a lab environment within a hospital setting, specifically in the pathology department. Collaborate with a team consisting of 3 tissue technicians, 2 PAs, and 8 pathologists. The department processes 150-200 samples per day, providing a dynamic and engaging work atmosphere.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.

Esoterix provides esoteric testing for hospitals and physician specialists, primarily specializing in endocrinology and GI testing. Esoterix goal is to provide premier laboratory services that positively impact patient care and cost-effective medical treatment. The Lab Technician will assist in specimen testing under direct and constant supervision according to established procedures, working under the oversight of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. This position will be working in our Rheumatology department.
****Pay Range: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour**
**Plus 2nd shift differential**

**Job Responsibilities**
+ Participate in specimen testing according to established procedures working under the technical oversight of a Clinical Lab Scientist
+ Record dates of receipt, in use, andexpirationfor all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays. Ensure material used is not expired prior to use
+ Perform pipetting using pre-set devices, calibrated and approved automatic devices or fixed volume dispensers
+ Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, document PM appropriately, andimmediatelycontactappropriate personnelfor problems requiring complex instrument repairs
+ Adhere to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies
+ Document all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance
+ Develop an ever-increasing understanding of laboratory medicine and the clinical significance of laboratory results
**Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemicalor Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
