Regions Hospital Clinical Laboratory is currently seeking a self-motivated, quality-focused Medical Lab Scientist to join our team. As a Medical Lab Scientist at Regions Hospital, you will join an innovative and collaborative group of professionals in our newly remodeled laboratory designed for ergonomics and workflow. Our team has also been engaged in developing our new laboratory information system designed to provide efficiency and patient safety. Your work will support Regions Hospital as well as six other suburban hospitals and over twenty clinics in our network.
As a member of a technical work team in the Clinical Laboratory you will perform laboratory tests in the section assigned:
Assist in the implementation of methodologies, participate in the training of new personnel and any student clinical rotations.
Assisting in the development and implementation of training programs for new personnel and students: Assist with directing personnel by serving as a charge tech.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, biology, or other science related field. Advanced Degree or training (Masters in Sciences or Clinical Specialty) may substitute for preferred certification.

Successful completion of a Clinical rotation in an approved program that qualifies for ASCP certification or equivalent.

The Manufacturing Technician I supports BMT Production lines related to the process, test development, prototype and test system builds. Under guidance of the Production Supervisor and Manufacturing Engineering team, this role is responsible for working directly with Manufacturing Operators to assist with in-process failures, defects and process related issues. This individual will provide operator training when workmanship failures are found to prevent future failures, identify and quarantine defective parts using the NCMR process, act as the primary liaison between Production and Engineering, perform product and performance testing, and identify/implement continuous improvement opportunities in the BMT manufacturing environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Core Manufacturing Engineering Support
Support production and engineering with the implementation and deployment of new product, processes transfer activities including training of the production operator staff.
Support manufacturing operations to ensure continuous and uninterrupted flow of product to maintain production output per established forecasted demand.
Performs hands-on activities such as product assembly and product testing to support the production schedule during times of transition and increased demand or change implementation.
Update, maintain and monitor manufacturing test procedures and equipment. Implement new tools, fixtures and equipment to improve efficiency where needed.
Troubleshoot and repair production systems/sub-assemblies that fails during the production process. Provide feedback to the trainer on all workmanship failures.
Provide initial support to manufacturing including but not limited to part discrepancies/nonconforming product, process issues, test failures, rework…
Calibration and PM
Coordinate and execute the calibration and preventative maintenance of tooling and equipment essential to the Eden Prairie facility.
Maintain accurate documentation to ensure all equipment and tooling are up to date and the information can easily be found.
Be the direct link to outside sourcing of calibration.
Documentation Management
Provides redlines (proposed changes) to maintain the product information structure. Work with engineering to ensure bill of materials (BOM's), prints, process, forms, records, etc… are relevant and up to date in both the corporate ERP system and Document Control.
Use established standard operating procedures (SOP's) and work instructions (WI's) to carry out the non-conforming material report (NCMR) process for physical dispositions, repairs, rework and completes appropriate reporting and documentation.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Minimum
2 year technical degree or, in lieu of degree, High School diploma / equivalent + 5 years experience will be considered
1-3 yrs. exp in a similar role, in a manufacturing environment performing technical and administrative duties.

About this position
Microscopically evaluates (screens and interprets) gynecological and nongynecological cytologic preparations according to laboratory procedures and workload policies. Communicates abnormal or significant findings to the pathologist for review and reporting of cytologic results to meet the needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric customers.

SCOPE:
Is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. Initiates and follows quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Performs specimen collection and assists with patient flow as needed. Performs clinical tests use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. Demonstrates the clinical thinking and technical skills needed to assess the appropriateness of results and the need for retesting or equipment recalibration. Performs and monitors specialized diagnostic laboratory tests. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assures pre-authorization and completes appropriate consent forms (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
* Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e. bone marrows in the room).
* Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results. Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house. Processes incoming orders for lab testing including reference laboratory specimens.
* Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.
* Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment. Performs daily, weekly and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.
* Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and documents all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance. Records proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators and reagents.
* Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.
* Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential.
* Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment
* Records results on appropriate worksheet and computer system and performs file maintenance. Processes specimens for send-out testing.
* Follows the laboratory's policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies supervisor. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
* Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records and checklists. Verifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.
* Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures that all supplies are viable before using in patient testing.
* Prepares reagents, stains and other chemical solutions as needed. Restocks the laboratory area as needed.
* Processes in-house and in-coming results for charting.
* Charts patient results in a timely manner as needed.
* Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion. Processes properly labeled specimens according to local bloodbank policy.

This is a full-time position within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The purpose of simulated clinical experiences and learning lab experiences is to prepare nurses to respond to the increasingly complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. Innovative simulation and skill-based learning experiences are needed to enhance safe, effective, evidence-based practice for nursing students. In collaboration with faculty, the learning lab coordinator will be responsible for the establishment of centralized processes and procedures related to the nursing simulation/learning lab.
Responsibilities:
* Support student skill development and create opportunities that enhance current use of simulation to support continuous improvement and growth of skills and student critical thinking.
* Create and develop opportunities to provide individual student remediation as requested by faculty.
* Assist in lab stations or simulations as requested by faculty.
* Assist in proctoring students as requested by faculty.
* Provide coaching and feedback to students during scheduled lab time as requested by faculty and during open lab time.
* Participate in simulation planning.
* Develop and implement processes for purchase, scheduling use of and maintenance of equipment and space in the simulation/learning laboratory.

Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) provides laboratory services for the consumers of healthcare to include both LMC inpatients and outpatients. Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Four-year diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or Chemistry from a national or international accredited educational institution. Transcript must include a minimum of 60 semester hours with 25 hours of coursework in clinical laboratory science, chemical and biological science required. Must include a clinical laboratory rotation in immunohematology, chemistry, hematology and microbiology.

* The MLS II performs the following:

* Collection of specimens: May be required to perform venipunctures to include capillary punctures for blood specimens from patients of various ages requiring developmentally appropriate techniques.
* The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory testing according to laboratory accreditation requirements and LMC Laboratory established procedures/policies. The MLS II exhibits the knowledge and expertise in the following job duties:
* Process laboratory specimens related to assigned departments.
* Select, perform, evaluating, and monitoring the performance of test procedures independently using manual and/or instrumental techniques.
* Perform instrument calibration and verify data to meet manufacturer's specifications; perform routine quality control, preventative maintenance, and verification of correct instrument operation; recognize indicators of malfunction and perform corrective action.
* Perform trouble-shooting procedures on all assigned department equipment, communicate with service, and relay appropriate information to appropriate personnel; document appropriately.
* Review patient and instrument data for accuracy and maintain proper records (i.e., quality control reports).
* Recognize abnormal results, evaluate and correlate data with other test results/diagnosis; interpret appropriately and conduct follow-up action if required; seek appropriate assistance with problems.
* Perform proper notification of abnormal results per policy.
* Achieve and maintain competency for waived, moderate and high complexity testing (checked semi-annually the first year of hire and annually thereafter) in all testing assigned.
* Adhere to safety policies and procedures as established by LMC.
* Provide patient care/support that is appropriate to the cognitive, physical, and emotional needs of the patient group served.
* Perform all assigned testing independently and successfully multi-task as necessary; promote teamwork within the department.
* Perform additional assignments independently such as inventory of supplies, write or revise laboratory procedures/manuals, reports, and other documents.
* Review quality control documents for QC outliers and trends and take appropriate action; print and review such documents as abnormal results, critical values, overdue logs/pending logs and communicate appropriately.
* Train new employees/students on technical procedures and equipment as assigned
* Works with others (e.g. coworkers, nurses and physicians and other healthcare workers, laboratory and hospital administration, patients and families) in a teamwork approach that promotes/encourages each person's contributions toward achieving optimal goals.

* Informs other personnel of circumstances that may affect the quality of testing and takes the responsibility to initiate appropriate follow-up.
* Notifies appropriate personnel of critical test results or results that are deemed "alert" values. If interpretation or explanation of test results is sought, the MLS independently takes the responsibility that the appropriate information is given or referred to a supervisor or Pathologist.
* Courteous and accurate in all communications and follows LMC confidentiality policies.
* Demonstrates the ability to facilitate learning for coworkers, students, and other members of the health care team and community. This could include both formal and informal facilitation of learning.
* Maintains established continuing education requirements for national certification and for MLS LMC level requirements. Participates in the teaching of medical laboratory science students/new employees in a clinical setting.
* Possesses sensitivity to recognize, appreciate, and incorporate differences into the provision of care. Differences may include, but are limited to, cultural differences, spiritual beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, age and values.

Initial RCRA training is received within 6 months of the hire date and continuing with annual RCRA training.

In this role, you will:
This position outlines the responsibilities and requirements for a histology Lab Assistant, focusing on the embedding area. Upon completing the technical training program, both the Supervisor and Laboratory Director will assess the Histology Lab Assistant's performance quality and standards. Following this assessment, a competency assessment plan will be executed.
The Histology Lab Assistant will be responsible for preparing sections of human tissue from surgical procedures for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis. This includes using the technique of embedding to properly orient specimens in paraffin blocks.
Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
May label requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes and/or slides and affixes coverslip to slides.
Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed,
All you need is:
Knowledge of CLIA regulations regarding proficiency testing, quality assurance and quality control.
Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures, equipment, and testing to monitor control checks.
Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Skill in using computer programs and applications.
