Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens, reviews and reports lab results, performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Acts as resource to other laboratory personnel. Additional responsibility includes assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other agencies, and quality assurance, quality control and instrument maintenance.

Education

The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).
Experience
Preferred: 6 months to 1 year medical laboratory technologist, clinical laboratory scientist experience in acute care facility.
Certification
Required: Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire. Licensure, as required by State.

This is a part-time, Adjunct Faculty position in the Medical Lab Technician program.

The Medical Lab Technician Adjunct Instructor will provide instruction for the Medical Lab Technician and Phlebotomy programs. The lecture and labs will be designed to continually promote the development and effective use of the skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, computation, problem solving, and decision-making; providing the student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework, and projects; maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student academic performance; and possessing a thorough knowledge and understanding of all college policies.
Job Duties
Prepares and delivers instruction on topics in Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy.
Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
Develops curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
Maintains office hours for students seeking academic advice, assists in student recruitment and retention; and assists students with course-related problems outside of the classroom.
Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.
Maintain standards of teaching to the collegiate level and perform according to the NAACLS accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's in Science as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist credentialed by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) and holds a current TN state license as a Technologist.
