Part Time: 2nd Shift 3:00pm-10:00pm 3 days/week including weekends Pay Range: $27.00-$32.00 Based on Experience * Plates Microbiology samples * Performs testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation. * Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results. * Calls worklists on the computer, does editing of results and data enters test results. * Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any "rare and improbable" test results to the attention of a supervisor. * Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed. * Reviews daily specimen management reports. * Assists the Laboratory Supervisor in training new employees. * Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed. * Performs maintenance on the automated Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis instrumentation as needed. * Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies. Records lot numbers and compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records. * Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed. * Data enters results into the computer. * Ensures that QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to supervisor. * Reviews worklists and work from automated analyzers to ensure accuracy and timely reporting of patient results. * Performs differentials and urine sediments as needed. * Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities. * Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing. * Follows all safety protocols as outlined in safety manual. * Identifies and pursues self-improvement needs * Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate * Performs other duties as assigned. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs laboratory tests and reports results with the appropriate documentation, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with laboratory policies and procedures. Validates test results in the Laboratory Information System in order for accurate reports to be generated for physician review. In some instances may enter data directly into the computer system. Performs all LIS functions relative to the scope of her/his responsibility to include worklists, outstanding reports, patient registration, etc. Performs quality control for all testing and assures that results meet established criteria before releasing test results. Recognizes factors that may affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action. Reports low supply inventory to appropriate staff. Ensures uninterrupted testing by informing appropriate personnel when supplies fall below par level. Recognizes instrument or equipment failures and evaluates problem. Takes appropriate action to troubleshoot or to contact internal or external individuals for corrective action. Prepares samples appropriately for testing. According to laboratory protocol prepares and labels stains, reagents, and stock solutions used in the processing of specimens. Maintains glassware and other materials necessary for the performance of clinical laboratory tests. May temporarily assume supervisory responsibility of section during the absence of the supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or related scientific field. The training and qualifications of all personnel trained outside of the US must be evaluated to determine equivalency to an education obtained in the United States. The equivalency evaluation must be performed by a nationally recognized organization, such as NACES and AICE ASCP registry, registry eligible, or equivalent registry (AMT, NCA, or CLS). Requires knowledge of principles and practices of laboratory science and minimal computer skills.
