We're partnering with a Boston-based academic medical center on a new opening for a Cytogenetic Technologist to join a high-volume clinical cytogenetics laboratory.
This is a full-time, day-shift role offering exposure to complex testing in an academic environment - with the added flexibility of a hybrid schedule (4-6 remote days per month).

Providing analytical support externally and internally.
Strong knowledge of fundamental chromatographic separation mechanisms in both gas and liquid phases, with proven years of excellent hands-on method development and optimization experience using HPLC, UPLC, and GC for separation of molecules and isomers.
Sound background in organic chemistry with a focus on structure characterization and elucidation of synthetic molecules through determination and interpretation of mass spectrometry and NMR data.
Self-motivated with excellent communication, writing, and reviewing skills.
Familiarity with Waters and Agilent (U) HPLC and mass spectrometry hardware.

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for supervision of assigned workstations, including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management.
The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.

Essential Functions
As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

1. Performs qualitative and quantitative tests and procedures using instruments and/or manual methods according to laboratory policies and procedures.
2. Operates all instruments/analyzers according to laboratory policies and procedures. Performs routine maintenance, function checks or calibrations on equipment according to policies and documents. Recognizes instrument malfunctions, documents problems as may be required, performs troubleshooting and repair according to established guidelines.
3. Performs quality control for all reagents and instruments according to policies and documents results. Takes action for all out of range QC results and documents corrective action steps if applicable.
4. Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of test results according to laboratory policies. Identifies aberrant patient test results and takes appropriate action; seeks assistance in resolution as needed. Documents all corrective action steps.
5. Participates in QA/QI activities as required. Participates in Proficiency Testing program including the handling and analysis of Proficiency Testing samples. Documents errors using hospital Safety Reporting System; informs supervisor/manager when safety reports are entered.
6. Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily tasks and objectives. Supports and assists coworkers as needed to ensure the best possible patient care; able to work independently while functioning as a team member.
7. Performs other duties as required that may include inventory management, processing samples, call back of critical test results, and clerical duties.

You will be using automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
You will be performing diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
You will be responsible for setting up and running lab tests and reading and releasing results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
You can expect to specialize in one or more of the following areas:
Hematology:
Testing cell-related components of blood samples to enumerate and identify their cellular components, including the microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques.
Chemistry / Endocrinology:
Testing blood and body fluids for various analytes, utilizing automated instrumentation.
Urinalysis:
Analysis and evaluation of chemical and microscopic components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
Cytology:
Processing blood and body fluids for microscopic examination by pathologists. Includes slide preparation and staining, utilizing manual and automated counting techniques.
Immunology / Serology:
Testing blood and other samples for the presence of viral and bacterial disease by detecting antibodies (AB) or antigens (AG).
What You'll Need to Succeed:
You are able to work the overnight shift
Veterinary or Human Laboratory Skillset is a must to be considered for this position
Skillset in Chemistry, Hematology, Serology or Urinalysis
Must have excellent pipetting skills
You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
You will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).

Works independently in an efficient and organized manner to assure accurate results and records. The work requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret accurately test results used by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Reports to: Manager and Clinical Supervisor.
Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results.
1. Performs qualitative and quantitative tests and procedures using instruments and/or manual methods according to laboratory policies and procedures.
2. Operates all instruments/analyzers according to laboratory policies and procedures. Performs routine maintenance, function checks or calibrations on equipment according to policies and documents. Recognizes instrument malfunctions, documents problems as may be required, performs troubleshooting and repair according to established guidelines.
3. Performs quality control for all reagents and instruments according to policies and documents results. Takes action for all out of range QC results and documents corrective action steps if applicable.
4. Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of test results according to laboratory policies. Identifies aberrant patient test results and takes appropriate action; seeks assistance in resolution as needed. Documents all corrective action steps.
5. Participates in QA/QI activities as required. Participates in Proficiency Testing program including the handling and analysis of Proficiency Testing samples. Documents errors using hospital Safety Reporting System; informs supervisor/manager when safety reports are entered.
6. Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily tasks and objectives. Supports and assists coworkers as needed to ensure the best possible patient care; able to work independently while functioning as a team member.
7. Performs other duties as required that may include inventory management, processing samples, call back of critical test results, and clerical duties.

Qualifications
Essential Functions
* Perform multi-parameter flow cytometry using BD FACSLyric and spectral Cytek Aurora instruments to assess immune phenotype and CAR-T response. Increasing levels of data analysis and interpretation are encouraged as experience grows.
* Process and bank clinical research specimens, including blood, bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, and solid tissues collected from patients undergoing immune-based therapies.
* Take a lead role in the development, optimization, and scientific refinement of immune monitoring assays, including spectral flow and molecular methodologies.
* Perform and report immunoassays, including ELISA and multiplex cytokine profiling, using Luminex and ELLA platforms.
* Extract DNA using the QIAcube, perform and analyze dd PCR to support CAR-T expansion monitoring in clinical trials.
* Conduct cell sorting using the SONY MA900 in accordance with study needs.
* Support validation, verification, and implementation of new technologies into laboratory workflows.
* Take a lead role in QC processes, oversee preventative maintenance, and calibration of specialized instruments.
* Maintain meticulous data accuracy, sample tracking, and documentation aligned with regulatory and institutional standards.
* Troubleshoot challenges and contribute to process improvement and laboratory efficiency.
* Assist in onboarding and mentoring new team members to foster a strong learning culture.
* Draft and revise SOPs and method validation documents within established document control procedures.
* Participate in incident investigations and corrective action efforts to support quality management
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Immunology, Biology, or related life science field is required. MLS ASCP board certification is preferred.
Experience
* Minimum 2 years of paid laboratory experience is required.
* Prior immunology coursework or research experience is required.
* Experience in a clinical, GCLP, or similarly regulated laboratory environment would be desirable.
* Hands-on experience with clinical flow cytometry and exposure to spectral flow cytometry and data analysis software would be valuable.
