Essential Duties & Responsibilities Determines the acceptability of clinical specimens (body fluids, tissue biopsies) received by the laboratory for testing Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records Performs quality control and other quality assurance activities to verify performance of clinical assays Maintains a safe, clean and secure working environment by complying with procedures, and CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA regulations Reports accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the supervisor Maintains records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens Conditions of Employment Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check Required Education & Experience Associate's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical lab technology Eligible for certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus Effective English language verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work/interact with diverse populations and show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in medical technology/medical laboratory science or equivalent education Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Previous experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
