Summary Description

Summary

Enters pertinent information into the computer in order to generate results. 10% - Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs of complex lab equipment and calibrates instruments in order to ensure reliable results. Maintains QA/QC records, identifies variances, resolves QA/QC issues. Troubleshoots as necessary. 5% - Participates in problem-solving, laboratory policy making, and information distribution. Participates in VDL activities, staff meetings, SOP's drafting, and process improvement efforts. 5% - Consults with veterinarians and other clients in order to provide information and lab results. Provides information that assists the client in their interpretation of test results. Working hours will be on-call from approximately 6:00 p.m. and will end shift at 11:00 p.m. and will include 1 to 2 weekends per month.

Summary
The medicaltechnologist performs testing on patient specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and reports the results. Purpose: The function of the Laboratory technician in the Clinical Chemistry section is to participate in a variety of laboratory support activities associated with the analysis of human specimens and biological samples of epidemiologic and environmental importance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duty 1 - 30 % of time - Under general supervision, the employee will take part in sample preparation and testing of samples within the Clinical Chemistry section.
Ensure the acceptability of specimens/samples for testing.

Prepare calibration standards, QC materials, mobile phase, and other reagents for PFAS and other testing in CC.

What You'll Be Doing
As a PCR Technologist in our high-tech molecular lab, you'll play a vital role in detecting respiratory pathogens and urinary tract infections using cutting-edge platforms like Thermo Fisher QuantStudio and BD Max.
Your daily mission will include:
Accessioning and handling specimens with precision and care.
Extracting DNA/RNA like a pro (and making it look easy).
Running and interpreting PCR tests with pinpoint accuracy.
Following SOPs like they're second nature (because they are).
Supporting quality control and inventory tracking to keep everything running smoothly.
Collaborating with the Lab Supervisor and team to ensure the lab is always one step ahead.
Keeping records tidy, temperature logs up to date, and compliance locked in.
What You'll Need to Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field. (Transcripts are REQUIRED.)
Required at least 1 year of clinical biological lab experience (molecular PCR is a big plus).
Fluency in nucleic acid technology, pipetting, and sample preparation.
Comfort working with PCR platforms and extraction techniques.
A detail-oriented mindset with a passion for accuracy, compliance, and innovation.
Excellent communication skills-and a knack for collaboration.
Computer literacy and the ability to juggle multiple tools and tasks without breaking a sweat.

Job Summary:
The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Laboratory Operations Coordinator / Associate Technical Director. The successful candidate will:
* Manage day-to-day activities within the laboratory, including insuring operation of essential equipment, making sure adequate supplies are available for testing procedures and reviewing budget.
* Provide administrative support and back up to lab quality system manager in maintaining compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including those for New York State, CLIA, CAP, TJC, CMS, etc.
* Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; and evaluate new materials and equipment.
* Manage and control departmental expenses while ensuring quality services in conjunction with the laboratory technical supervisors and support staff.
* Be responsible for departmental statistics, and coordinate collection and preparation as required.
* Prepare reports, charts, and graphs associated with performance improvement activities.
* Review goals, analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop techniques and systems required to meet those goals.
* Manage lab safety programs to insure compliance with all applicable regulations.
* Assist in laboratory space and facilities planning; make recommendations for changes; maintain inventory of laboratory furniture, equipment and supplies.
* Act as liaison between lab, other services and affiliates to insure compliance with all applicable regulations.
* Proven ability to write and edit policies and procedures.
* Manage personnel, provide training, mentorship and performance feedback.
* Develop and present programs for continuing education.
* Perform all other duties as assigned or as business needs warrant.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field.
* New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist Licensure.
* 5+ years of experience as a Laboratory Technologist.
* 2+ years of supervisory experience involving supervision of professional laboratory personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's Degree.
* ASCP certification.
