DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. Summary
Under general supervision and following established procedures, stains, mounts slides and microscopically studies cells from the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions. Microscopically examines stained slides from a variety of biological materials in order to detect cancer or other cellular abnormalities. Searches for minute abnormalities in size, shape, color and arrangements of cells which may indicate disease. Prepares specimens for examination, utilizing appropriate laboratory techniques and protocols. Classifies cells according to established categories. Determines whether cells are abnormal and whether slide should be reviewed and examined by other laboratory personnel. Reviews and classifies all abnormal cases held for Pathologist's review; prepares and submits reports to physicians and other authorized personnel. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, professional affiliations. Adheres compliance with established administrative laboratory policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with requirement of laboratory safety, OSHA, assurance accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs other related duties as required.
This position is split between Central campus and Huron Valley Sinai Hospital, Monday 8.0hrs. Wednesday 4.0 hrs. and Friday 8.0 hrs. Position will primarily cover FNA adequacy at Huron Valley hospital. the schedule is usually in place a day before and Cytotech will be aware to start the day at HVH or central campus and for the day they stay at that site. This position will require some flexibility based upon if the procedure is scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.

Participates in the instruction (theory and practice) of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees; attends, participates in, and presents department continuing education and in-service training programs.
Participates in various quality assurance and regulatory agency activities in the department, which may include performance of proficiency testing; involvement in TQM/CQI committees; developing and documenting quality assurance monitors; writing and updating of procedure manuals; participation in mandatory personal competency assessment and assistance with administration of section competency testing program.
Provides direction and guidance for questions and/or problems referred by medical laboratory technicians, and other laboratory personnel concerning specimen acceptability, unusual or discrepant results, instrument or method problems, and/or out-of-control situations. Communicates with nurses/physicians/other health care workers and public concerning lab results, procedures, and technology.
Performs other special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned, including inventory control, reagent preparation, limited venipuncture. Acting as a Team Leader, assumes designated functions of the supervisor in his/her absence according to CAP/CLIA requirements.

This position is split between Central campus and Huron Valley Sinai Hospital, Monday 8.0hrs. Wednesday 4.0 hrs. and Friday 8.0 hrs. Position will primarily cover FNA adequacy at Huron Valley hospital. the schedule is usually in place a day before and Cytotech will be aware to start the day at HVH or central campus and for the day they stay at that site. This position will require some flexibility based upon if the procedure is scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.

**Your skills and experience**
**Education**
High school diploma or equivalent required
**Experience**
+ Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Will perform basic math calculations
**Working Conditions**
+ Understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions
+ Understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines
+ Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
+ Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time
+ Reach, bend, kneel and have high level of manual dexterity
+ Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
+ Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
+ Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures and to blood borne pathogens
+ Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas
+ Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs
