Position Summary
The role of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (CLSI) reports to the assigned Laboratory Supervisor in direct partnership with the Laboratory Director. This position is responsible for performing routine and special testing in different areas of the laboratory. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, quality control procedures, troubleshooting and documentation per established guideline and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will assist with clerical and specimen-processing duties as needed.
Essential Position Responsibilities
* Perform CLIA waived and non-waived testing according to approved procedures and processes.
* Perform, verify, and report laboratory results in accordance to established guidelines.
* Identify issues that may adversely affect assay performance or patient results and perform corrective action including notification of appropriate laboratory personnel.
* Perform analyzer maintenance, calibration, and quality control procedures.
* Perform proficiency testing as needed for regulatory compliance.
* Maintain inventory for department.
* Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients.
* Assist in validation of new equipment.
* Partner with educator to train students and new employees.
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or Chemical Science, required.
* Licensure and Certifications: Eligible to test for ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification and must pass within one year of hire or transfer date. Current qualifications with CLIA'88 regulations, required.
* Experience: 1-year medical laboratory experience, preferred.
Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of time standing while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position will spend 20% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge and Skills
This position reports to either the Routine Facilitator. This position requires a minimum of two years of steel mill or related experience and a high school diploma. Training for the specific tasks will be provided by the site. An aptitude for working with computers and sensitive technical instruments will be a plus.
The incumbent must be able to work in a controlled laboratory environment, and must be able to work independently.
Incumbent must be capable of calibrating and standardizing vacuum spectrograph and carbon-sulfur determinator, operating saws, abrasive cut wheel and disk grinder. The Laboratory Technician II is a technically and mechanically-skilled individual capable of modifying and building prototype product test units and performing airflow, motor heat rise, sound and other product safety tests. Responsibilities also include conducting calorimetric and psychrometric tests on prototype and production products according to industry standards. The technician also must be capable of physically moving, lifting and manipulating product units in and out of test apparatuses and rooms.
This position will serve our US Air Division, located in Fort Smith, AR.
* Use blueprints and drawings to design sheet metal components and general assemblies.
* Apply standards-based methods for testing to evaluate assigned problems.
* Apply the basics of testing measurements and computations including temperatures (dry bulb, wet bulb, dew point, relative humidity) and pressure incorporating temperature relationships to test setup and execution.
* Setup, adjust, and change test samples and setups for testing and perform the required testing in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
* Collect, analyze, interpret, summarize, and document data and information gathered during testing.
* Operate, maintain, and repair test equipment, instrumentation, and systems in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
* Use of hand tool including welding and brazing tools.
* Manage electronic communications and assigned tasks and task documentation.
* Demonstrate an understanding of how to manage electronic communications and test and project documentation
* Write reports covering test conditions, procedures, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
* Complete assigned tasks and participate in R&D design development teams according to defined requirements.

* 3+ years experience in product development laboratory testing
* Demonstrate understanding of the following concepts:
* Sheet metal and assembly design and design fabrication
* Test standards and materials properties
* Test performance and documentation
* Ability to understand equipment assembly, basic electrical wiring, and basic system maintenance and repair.
* Experience with driving and operating a lift truck preferred, ability to obtain a Forklift license within six months of hire if needed.
* Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
* Demonstrated ability to work well with others is a matrix team environment.
* Must be able to safely climb, bend, or otherwise move while potentially carrying heavy equipment or parts, up to 50 pounds, occasionally.
