Job Description Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Service Director and according to established policies and procedures, performs various Clinical Laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory. Analyzes and interprets test results and ensures accuracy of same. Uses technical competencies and judgment to respond and handle situations as they arise. Assists with the Laboratory PI program, ordering of supplies, developing procedures and other areas as needed. Senior technologists assume responsibility for charge duties when the Lab Service Director or Assistant Lab Director is not on-site. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI). Handles, processes, tests, analyzes, prepares reports on and maintains records of specimens ana patient test results according to established policies and procedures. Applies knowledge on the clinical significance of test results and according to established procedures, communicates these results to the appropriate medical personnel. Operates, performs quality control, maintains instrumentation* calibration, maintenance and take function check on following equipment as attached. Be able to monitor, troubleshoot and/or take correct action. Inform appropriate personnel when problems arise. Performs and documents proficiency testing in same manner as patient samples. Job Description Performs clerical and technical functions to ensure smooth workflow of the department, such as processing specimens, sending specimens to reference labs, giving results to physicians and/or nurses. Processes all types of body fluid specimens (blood, urine, CSF, tissue, etc). Assesses integrity, appropriateness, and labeling of specimens. Corrects or informs appropriate personnel of problems. Performs order entry for various types of specimens and processes admissions for different patient types, i.e. insurance, contract and self-pay. Participates in Performance Improvement activities by participating in PI groups and giving input to enhance and improve operations.
