Overview
Selective Insurance is seeking a Workers Compensation Med/Maintenance Adjuster for our Charlott, NC office. This is a hybrid role, 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.
Responsibility includes effective and timely communication with employer, employee, and medical provider. Manage lifetime indemnity and medical benefits. Continuous review and analysis of these claims to ensure that the reserves are appropriate. Manage administration of benefits and claim resolution. Investigates claims to determine coverage and compensability based on jurisdictional guidelines. Obtain relevant information necessary for a thorough investigation. Freeze facts of claims and make timely decisions. Provide compelling customer service. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Handles assigned claims from the return-to-work units with lifetime indemnity awards, lifetime medical awards, and claim petitions. Collaborate with Workers Compensation Analyst from Strategic Case Unit as these claims tend to carry high exposure (upwards of $1M).
Handles non-indemnity claims (no lost time within waiting period), medical causality, denied claims (not compensable and not covered), and medical claim petitions. Establishes initial and subsequent reserves on medical only claims with a general exposure of less than $25,000.
Processes claims which include the following activities: Making contacts, setting reserves, evaluating claims for exposure, establishing timely reserve adjustments during the life of the file, making timely payments, and resolution. May adjust reserves accordingly with a general exposure of $75,000.
Documents claims files and maintain control of work through documentation or diary system.
Perform timely live-well checks on claimant and dependents.
File state forms timely in accordance with statutory guidelines.
Ensures compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
Handle disputed facts, benefits, compensability, coverage, medical causality, and relatedness.
Receives assigned claims from the medical only unit with treatment beyond 60 days.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Requirements
Knowledge of workers compensation statutes, coverage, and case law.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of medical treatment and terms as related to medical only workers compensation claims.
Critical thinking skills to assess compensability of WC claim as it relates to the facts and law.
Education and Experience
College degree preferred.
1-3 years claims experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will be available for sample evaluation during their scheduled shifts, which may include evenings and weekends.
The candidate will assess the diagnostic quality of the sample slide and submission information in a timely manner (~15 minutes).
The candidate will evaluate technician appropriate sample submissions in a timely manner (~15-30 minutes).
The candidate will flag samples to be further evaluated by the on-shift clinical pathologists as needed.
Operate and maintain robotic microscopes remotely to assess sample and slide quality.
Perform quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and consistency in slide preparation and evaluation prior to pathologist review.
Evaluate select technician-appropriate samples (e.g., blood smears) and document findings within established protocols.
Collaborate with pathologists and team members to support efficient clinical pathology workflows.
Serve as a Medical Concierge by providing clear communication, timely updates, coordinating consults, and concierge-level service to clinics as needed.
Uphold laboratory standards for accuracy, reliability, and turnaround time.
Assist in troubleshooting sample quality and assessment issues, performing and recommending corrective actions as needed.

What you will do

Job Description Summary
We are seeking a Lab Coordinator to support research on the role of nutrition in the regulation of muscle growth. Works with the Pl, Postdoctoral Fellows, and technical staff to investigate the effects of premature birth and dietary interventions on protein synthesis, intracellular signaling, and metabolism. Plans, completes, and occasionally supervises research projects in accordance with the general plans approved by the Pl.
Responsibilities
Animal Research and Laboratory Work
Conducts animal research studies using neonatal pig models, including surgical procedures, husbandry, clinical care, and specimen collection.
Performs analytical work on collected specimens using biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology techniques to assess protein synthesis, nutrient signaling, and cell growth.
Executes cellular and molecular assays such as Western blotting, ELISA, and RT-qPCR for quantifying protein and gene expression.
Conducts biochemical assays including colorimetric, fluorometric, and HPLC-based methods.
Data Management and Documentation
Documents experimental procedures accurately.
Analyzes and summarizes data from research studies to support findings and publications.
Laboratory Operations and Coordination
Coordinates and oversees daily lab activities, providing staff support and ensuring quality control.

Job Description Summary
We are seeking a Lab Coordinator to support research on the role of nutrition in the regulation of muscle growth. Works with the Pl, Postdoctoral Fellows, and technical staff to investigate the effects of premature birth and dietary interventions on protein synthesis, intracellular signaling, and metabolism. Plans, completes, and occasionally supervises research projects in accordance with the general plans approved by the Pl.
Responsibilities
Animal Research and Laboratory Work
Conducts animal research studies using neonatal pig models, including surgical procedures, husbandry, clinical care, and specimen collection.
Performs analytical work on collected specimens using biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology techniques to assess protein synthesis, nutrient signaling, and cell growth.
Executes cellular and molecular assays such as Western blotting, ELISA, and RT-qPCR for quantifying protein and gene expression.
Conducts biochemical assays including colorimetric, fluorometric, and HPLC-based methods.
Data Management and Documentation
Documents experimental procedures accurately.
Analyzes and summarizes data from research studies to support findings and publications.
Laboratory Operations and Coordination
Coordinates and oversees daily lab activities, providing staff support and ensuring quality control.
Develops and implements standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure lab safety and efficiency.

The role contributes directly to high-quality, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success in fire service, emergency medical services, and public safety careers.
Primary Responsibilities

Lab Preparation, Maintenance, & Safety
* Prepare, set up, and dismantle training props, materials, and equipment for fire, rescue, and EMS labs.
* Inspect, clean, and maintain tools, apparatus, and facilities to ensure safe and functional operation.
* Test and service oxygen systems, fire-ground props, and other pressurized or specialized training equipment following established safety procedures.
* Maintain inventory, track supplies, and report repair or replacement needs.
* Operate college vehicles and hand or power tools as required for training-site setup and material transport.

* Provide logistical and technical support to instructors during labs and simulations.
