Non-Exempt position. Performs analyses on biological specimens, e.g. blood and urine, to aid health care providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Participates in the operational support activities necessary to maintain and optimize testing capabilities.

Qualifications

For MT- Baccalaureate Degree in one of the following:
Medical Technology (MT)
Medical Laboratory Science (MLS)
Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS)
Or Bachelor's degree plus Certificate in Medical laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT), as recognized by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required. An HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
For MLT- Associate's degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program or U.S. military Medical Laboratory-training program.
Skills
Experience working in a medical field Required. Moderate to advanced computer skills. Possess good written and oral communications skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects. Preferred: Phlebotomy Willingness to travel to other MCHS locations for assignments as needed.

Expertise and an academic track record in Neurogastroenterology/Motility and/or esophageal disorders is desired but not essential, and expertise and a track record in areas that relate to food and health would also be welcome. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team (gastroenterologists, APP, dietitian and psychologist) and, if suitably qualified, would be eligible for a fully funded personal Chair. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with the #1 Hospital System in TX and #7 GI and GI Surgery program in the nation (recognized by U.S. News & World Report) providing high-quality patient care while engaging in clinical research and education.
This position offers an exceptional opportunity to further develop these areas of gastroenterology and clinical research within the Josephine Hughes Sterling Program in Neurogastroenterology/Motility and/or Esophageal Disorders and the Fondren Foundation Food and Health Alliance:
* Full service esophageal and GI motility lab providing the complete range of motility, GE reflux and related testing. This includes participating in a Houston Methodist network-wide cloud-based platform for the evaluation of motility recordings.
* Dedicated GI dietitian.
* Dedicated Gastro-psychologist.
* Close collaborations with cognate fields such as neurology and neurosciences, urogynecology, physical therapy (providing biofeedback and management of pelvic disorders), and imaging (including dynamic MRI).
* Expert foregut, thoracic, and colorectal surgical services performing leading edge minimally invasive and robotic surgeries.
* Comprehensive advanced endoscopy team performing procedures such as POEM and G-POEM.
* Access, within the Underwood Center, to clinical research support including dedicated data analysts and, within the Research Institute, advanced data analytics.
* Collaboration, through the Digital Health Initiative, with Rice University departments of engineering and computer sciences in research projects in remote monitoring, wearables, imaging analytics, VR and AI-based clinical projects.

* Provide expert consultation for patients with complex disorders of GI and esophageal function, including, but not limited to, GERD and related disorders, dysphagia, constipation, and gastroparesis by integrating leading edge approaches in patient management.
* Provide leadership in the evaluation and management of symptoms and disorders based on interactions between food and the GI tract.
* Provide leadership in a Digestive Health and Wellness Program

What You'll Do:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist demonstrates competency with the full scope of laboratory procedures, chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, molecular and transfusion medicine. Analyzes information, monitors quality performance and takes action to ensure the efficient delivery of accurate and timely laboratory test results and services. Understands the requirements and standards of regulating agencies and ensures compliance within the laboratory. Delegates and provides clinical laboratory expertise for support staff within the laboratory and provides technical expertise in a manner that promotes collaboration with internal and external customers. Primary Responsibilities:
Perform routine microbiology and some molecular testing
Responsible for conducting examinations on specimens collected from patients for bacterial, viral, protozoan and fungal infections
Isolate and make cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature, and nutrition
Examine physiological, morphological, and cultural characteristics, using a microscope, to identify and classify microorganisms in human specimens
Identify and isolate infectious disease-causing organisms
Perform a full range of laboratory tests from simple blood tests to more complex tests
Recognize unusual antimicrobial susceptibility results and troubleshoot the issue
What's Available:
Fulltime - 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE)
Day shifts (start between 4a-7:30a) with occasional evening shift (2p-10:30p) and every third weekend rotation. Weekend rotation will be evening shifts
Starting pay of $29.05 per hour and up, based on your years of experience, along with generous evening and weekend shift differentials
8 & 80: paid time and one-half the regular rate for all hours worked over eight in any workday and eighty hours in the fourteen-day period.

What You'll Do:
The Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist is a leader in facilitating the flow of specimens into the lab for diagnostic testing. The Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist is skilled at collecting specimens via venipuncture, capillary draw, swab collections, urine collections, and providing instruction to patients for self-collections. You will work with a variety of patient demographics and acuities including, but not limited to, Trauma and Emergency Center admits, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Ortho, Cardiopulmonary, Surgical Digestive, and more. The Laboratory Support Technician/Phlebotomist also responds to emergency events in the hospital and clinic settings. The Laboratory Support Technicians are trained and competent in many other areas of the laboratory including all aspects of specimen processing which includes the use of the centrifuge, separating blood components as required for testing, micro set-up, referral lab, Point of Care, Media prep, Istats, urine dips, etc. Primary responsibilities include:
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients
Verify patient information and ensure accurate labeling of specimens
Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper storage and transportation
Follow established protocols and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile and safe environment
Monitor vital signs and assess patient condition before, during, and after blood collection
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate specimen collection and processing
Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and ensure confidentiality of patient information
Adhere to quality control procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens and test results
What's Available:
Part-time, 40 hours biweekly (0.5 FTE). Will orientate full-time for 5-6 weeks
8-hour evening shifts (2p-10:30p) with every other weekend rotation
Starting pay of $17.54 per hour and up, based on your years of experience, as well as generous shift/weekend/holiday differentials
8 & 80: paid time and one-half the regular rate for all hours worked over eight in any workday and eighty hours in the fourteen-day period
