Position Summary
Responsible for working within the scope of laboratory policies and procedures to provide specimen processing, test performance and result reporting. Performs test procedures authorized by the Medical Laboratory Director; with the degree of skill commensurate with individual education, training, experience and technical abilities. Insure that all laboratory testing is performed according to established protocols or procedures. Exercise professional judgment in evaluation and assessment of test performance, sample integrity, result accuracy and validity. Follows all safety practices and maintains ongoing competency to ensure high quality testing services. He/she also supports professional development.
Position Responsibilities
Standard Work Duties: Medical Technologist (PRN)
Participates in day-to-day operations in the laboratory to facilitate workflow, maximize output, and decrease turnaround times
Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results
Utilizes job knowledge, judgment, and problem solving skills to ensure specimen quality
Operates, troubleshoots, and takes appropriate action when needed on all test systems
Identifies issues that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action including supervisory notification if indicated
Participates in laboratory quality assurance programs including proficiency testing
Follows established safety and biohazard procedures and standard precautions at all times. Disposes of biohazard waste following laboratory protocols (Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan)
Monitor quality control of laboratory instruments and test assays. Communicate with supervisor as needed. Responsible for routine preventive maintenance, minor repair, and troubleshooting of instruments
Supports professional development by assisting with training and/or competency assessments for coworkers, new employees, and students.
Ensures exceptional customer service is provided through prompt follow-up to requests for information via telephone or computer
Competencies & Skills
Essential:
Excellent skills in communication and conflict resolution. Knowledge of chemical, biological, and mathematical principles, and of laboratory instrumentation, method principles and techniques
Basic computing skills with ability to operate equipment typically used in the clinical laboratory. This includes equipment for manual procedures that may be needed to perform tests requested
Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods, which may be under time constraints and crisis situations
Ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with others

Certifications Preferred: National Registry (ASCP, etc.) at a Technologist level or higher
Experience Essential: Completion of an approved MLS program

What You'll Do
As a Medical Technologist /Histocompatibility Technologist, you will directly contribute to LifeLink's life-saving mission.
Under supervision, learns and perform all histocompatibility assays required for complete assessment of patients and donors for transplantation. Rotates on-call duty to ensure laboratory services are continually available.
Key Responsibilities:
Completes specialty training under the direct supervision of senior histocompatibility technologists and supervisors. Learns the principles of procedures and techniques currently used.
Receives, logs, bills and prepares specimens for analysis, including stat blood and tissue samples from patients and deceased donors.
Performs assigned laboratory procedures according to written protocols including HLA-ABC and DR Typing, ABO/Rh Typing, antibody screening by current methodologies, aliquoting and filing sera, crossmatching, and infectious disease testing. Performs those identified and cleared on the Histocompatibility Technologist Training Record and/or Competency Assessment Summary.
Operates instruments according to established protocols. Prepares and uses proper standards and controls with each procedure necessary to determine proper performance of instruments, reagents, and tests.
Rotates on-call duties with other technologists. Carries a cell phone at all times when on call, responds to calls within 15 minutes of contact and must be able to report to work within 1 hour to perform histocompatibility and infectious disease assays under stat conditions.
Effectively communicates and documents on-call event timelines and test results.
Checks all results and computer data entry for accuracy and reports results promptly to supervisor(s) and coordinators.
Practices confidentiality and follows all safety precautions, rules and regulations as specified by LifeLink and laboratory policies.
Participates in continuing education and proficiency testing programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's or higher degree in biology, physical science, medical technology, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, or applicable degree and/or applicable credit hours (as defined by licensing requirements) required.
Must possess High Complexity Testing competencies required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), CLIA, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies required.
MT Levels III and IV:
Must possess at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
Must possess demonstrated advanced clinical laboratory knowledge and competency so as to provide testing quality control, as well as proficient training and guidance to newer staff.
Must possess demonstrated proficiency of complex equipment and reagent maintenance, for troubleshooting, and problem resolution. Advanced proficiency must be demonstrated with all equipment at the assigned location.
Must possess demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, proficiency survey sample testing.
MT Level IVs:
Must have previous experience as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Specialist at Creative Testing Solutions.
Must possess demonstrated equipment calibration and qualification proficiency for all equipment at the assigned location.
Must possess advanced clinical laboratory competency expertise that meets regulatory and SOP requirements, so as to assist with staff competency assessments and training.
REQUIRED LICENSING:
All applicants for a Technologist license must satisfy the requirements for High Complexity Testing under CLIA Amendments.
State licensure required (or must have a valid temporary state license and obtain full certification within six months).

Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Charge or designate, the General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for clinical analysis and reporting on patient samples according to established protocols. The General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist is also responsible for assisting in general lab projects such as SOPs, chemical inventories, etc. The incumbent will maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines and ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation. Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health Diagnostic Services, current policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
Experience
Previous related experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology program.
Successful completion of the CMLTM Prior Learning Assessment process for a discipline specialty, as deemed by the Employer may also be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
Current registration or eligible for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) required.
Current membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) considered an asset.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
Windows computer environment required.
Microsoft Office programs preferred.
Follow oral and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.

THE ROLE: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
AHA's Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a full range of laboratory testing and reporting laboratory findings to physicians. AHA's MLT must meet the Personnel Responsibilities per CLIA Sec. 493.1495: Standard Testing Personnel Responsibilities. AHA's MLT must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Can identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Produce and report appropriate laboratory results in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, automated chemistry, and automated immunology.
Perform, interpret, and record quality control data in all departments.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation as prescribed in procedures.
Perform inventory and maintain department supplies.
Part-time Work Shift(s):
· Monday - Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM; 2-3 days per week with an occasional Saturday.

The objective of this role is to provide support to the Quality Team as a whole and help increase the efficiency of sample flow through the lab. The primary functions are to ensure timely sample receipt of material into the laboratory, maintenance of chemical inventory and libraries, and ensuring the laboratory environment is kept clean, safe, and organized at all times.
Duties & Reponisbilities:
The duties and tasks of a Laboratory Support Assistant involve the following:
Maintaining chemical and consumables inventory for the QC laboratory and purchasing items necessary for routine and non-routine analysis. In addition, corresponding with other areas of Technical when ordering following the group strategy in chemical purchasing
Carrying out initial reviews on all samples coming into the laboratory, and bulk, split, and distribute to the relevant areas/lab personnel
Receiving re-samples and inventory check samples into test
Monitoring QC dashboards to ensure that samples are not missing and get completed within due dates.
Assisting with taste panel setup and cleanup
Processing of raw materials such as fresh fruits and vegetables for quality check
Working on external request for analysis forms and sample order requests for external testing
Washing up glassware in the spaces used by QC and returning items to the appropriate locations
Preparing reagents and standards for routine and non-routine analysis
Maintaining QC retain sample libraries for citrus oils and taste, and retained pre-delivery samples
Assisting with the disposal of completed samples in the lab
Arranging for the disposal of hazardous waste from the site by corresponding with the HSE Manager
Assisting with the tracking of equipment maintenance and service contracts
Ensuring that the working area in the laboratory is maintained in a clean and orderly condition
Maintaining your own and other staff's health and safety at all times and ensuring a safe working environment
Undergo training in areas specific to Treatt plc business as required
Undergo training in additional practices to those aforementioned in order to aid the efficiency of the Quality Department as a whole
Performing such other tasks that may be required from time to time
Acting in the best interest of Treatt PLC at all times
Education & Training:
High school diploma with strong skills in English, Math, and Science. Industry or college experience preferred, but not necessary. Specific training for the role will be provided by Treatt.
Knowledge & Experience
Technical expertise: Ideally, a minimum of 1 years' experience in a similar role. Safe working practices to be adopted within the laboratory environment at all times, ensuring appropriate use of PPE to prevent breaches of health and safety for yourself and colleagues. Report any issues to the Quality Control manager.
Assessing and interpreting risks: Report any breaches in health and safety on the incident cards provided by the health and safety representative. Action should be made to prevent any such incidents where possible.
Business/IT Knowledge: An understanding of laboratory information systems and automated laboratory equipment. Understanding of where the Quality Control department fits within the company alongside building and maintaining relationships with key departments. Be competent at using Microsoft Office applications.
A critical thinker with strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
