Job Summary: The Medication Technician is responsible for documenting, delivering and administering medicines to residents as prescribed by physician(s) with superior customer service and in accordance with all policies, procedures, government regulators and guidelines
Essential Job Duties (Include % of time for each responsibility):
- Assist residents with their daily medications, treatments and resident care as assigned and with the scope of practice, policy and procedures, and government regulations. (40% of time.)
- Observe, verify and document that medication is ingested or applied as directed. (6% of time.)
- Notify supervisor if prescribed medication is not administered according to directions and documenting the reason(s) why. (5% of time.)
- Maintain clear, accurate, complete and confidential records on resident medication and care in accordance with established procedures and governing requirements. (6% of time.)
- Coordinate medication services with resident, pharmacy and physician(s) and verifying dosages with physician prior to dispensing. (5% of time.)
- Track all orders for medication changes and/or refills - prepare medications for distribution up to 24 hours in advance. (5% of time.)
- Participate in and complete narcotic counts at the beginning and end of shift, reporting any and all discrepancies to supervisor(s) immediately. (5% of time.)
- Assist caregivers in the performance of their job duties and assume caregiver activities and responsibilities when needed, including but not limited to: (13% of time.)
• Respond to resident needs promptly and kindly while maintaining each resident's self-respect, personal dignity, personal safety and confidentiality.
• Assist residents in their daily living activities including bathing, dressing, hygiene (including shaving, grooming, etc.), meals, activities, bowel and bladder functions (including restroom assistance/portable commodes/changing incontinency products, etc.)
• Provide assistance at mealtime with selecting meals, serving, clearing, delivering room trays as needed or assigned
• Transport residents as necessary assisting them into and out of bed, wheelchairs, etc., following all safety lifting and transferring techniques - escorting them to/from meals activities, or other transportation needs as requested or assigned
• Perform regular safety checks on residents and offer medication reminders
- Encourage residents to participate in daily activities such as bed making, laundry, cleaning, setting tables, etc.
- Clean, and assist with all other community activities and job duties as required or assigned
• Chart and document appropriate information (including incident reports) communicating any observed or suspected resident change of condition to a supervisor immediately
• Respond promptly to all resident alerts, carrying walkie-talkies and reacting to emergency or other resident requests as needed
• Ensure resident safety and comfort at all times, assisting in the performance of fire or other safety drills
- Perform other duties as consistent with the position and as assigned by the Director of Health Services and/or Executive Director, or other designee of the Executive Director as assigned. (15% of time.)

The program aims to provide potential candidates with valuable work experience in an emergency 9-1-1 system. As EMTs, candidates can expect to be trained in all aspects of medical emergency response by hands-on practical application of medical emergency response methodologies, along with the opportunity to work towards 1200 hours of experience for Paramedic School (California).
This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern position for Active Duty Service members participating in the SkillBridge program prior to completion of military service. Internship is limited to 180 days, however amount of days will be based on unit command approval. Must be available to work 40 hour per week, schedule will be four, 10 hour shifts. Candidates must possess all of the required certs to be considered and must provide their own housing and transportation.
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to medical emergencies; renders aid to injured parties; operates ambulances and other related medical equipment; participates in station, equipment and apparatus maintenance; attends training classes and drills; diagnoses medical problems and performs first-aid and resuscitator functions; and other related duties as assigned.

* A current EMT certification as defined by the State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA); or an EMT National Registry Certification (NREMT).
* A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
* Possession of San Diego County EMT certification.
* Valid Driver License

Physical strength and agility to lift and carry heavy objects, such as a gurney while transporting patients; lift, pull and operate gurney; climb ladders and stairs; bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl in tight spaces.

The Medication Technician is responsible for supervising and assisting in the administration of medications to residents as ordered and in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and practices of the company. Educational Reimbursement Program: Eligible employees may be reimbursed for career-related course work up to a maximum of $850 per fiscal year. Selection Procedures
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will go through the following examination process:
* Written Exam: The civil service written exam is a multiple choice format. If the written exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Oral Exam: The oral exam is a structured interview process that will assess the candidate's education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise. The oral exam selection process is not a hiring interview. A panel of up to four people will determine the candidate's score and rank for placement on the eligible list. Top candidates from the eligible list are referred for hiring interviews. If the oral exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Written & Oral Exam: If both a written exam and an oral exam is administered, the written exam is weighted at 60% and the oral exam is weighted at 40% unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% on each examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Rate-out: A rate-out is an examination that involves a paper rating of the candidate's application using the following criteria: education, training, and experience. Candidates will not be scheduled for the rate-out process.
Note: The rating of 70 referred to may be the same or other than an arithmetic 70% of the total possible points.

TYPICAL DUTIES
Makes a variety of microbiological examinations of specimens such as feces, urine, sputum and body fluids, including initial isolation of organisms, identification of organisms, antibiotic susceptibility testing of the organism and identification of parasites.
Makes biochemical analyses of blood and other fluids to determine the quantitative presence of creatinine, glucose, protein, calcium and other chemical components.
Makes qualitative biochemical and microscopic analyses of urine specimens.
Performs hematological examinations such as complete blood counts, differential counts, sedimentation rates, coagulation studies, platelet and reticulocyte counts, and bone marrow preparations.
Performs immunohematological examinations such as blood typing and cross matching.
Performs special procedures required such as glucose tolerance tests, kidney function tests, and other similar tests.
Participates in developmental work for new tests and procedures.
Performs quality control procedures, equipment maintenance, and recordkeeping as required in the performance of tests and examinations; may assume responsibility for specialized tasks such as quality control reporting.
May act as lead worker over other laboratory employees and laboratory trainees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: One-year equivalent to Clinical Laboratory Scientist I in San Joaquin County.
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
Special Requirement: When assigned to the Microbiology Unit, a valid license as a Clinical Microbiologist Scientist may substitute for the CLS issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health. KNOWLEDGE The principles, methods, materials, techniques and terminology of biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, hematology, immunohematology, and clinical microscopy as related to medical technology; recent developments, current literature, current regulations and policies, and sources of information in medical technology. ABILITY Perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedures; make accurate observations and records of test result; interpret test data and draw logical conclusions; correlate test results and evaluate validity; follow oral and written instructions in precise detail; perform examinations using manual or modern automated methodology; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; establish effective working relationships with physicians, hospital staff, and others; act as a lead worker over others; use initiative and be innovative in setting up new procedures. Retirement Plan: Employees of the County are covered by the County Retirement Law of 1937. Deferred Compensation: The County maintains a deferred compensation plan under Section 457 of the IRS code. The Roth IRA (after tax) is also now available.
Vacation: Maximum earned vacation is 10 days each year up to 3 years; 15 days after 3 years; 20 days after 10 years; and 23 days after 20 years.
Holidays: Effective July 1, 2017, all civil service status employees earn 14 paid holidays each year. Please see the appopriate MOU for details regarding holidays, accruals, use, and cashability of accrued time.
Sick Leave: 12 working days of sick leave annually with unlimited accumulation.
Sick leave incentive
: An employee is eligible to receive eight hours administrative leave if the leave balance equals at least one- half of the cumulative amount that the employee is eligible to accrue. The employee must also be on payroll during the entire calendar year.
Bereavement Leave: 3 days of paid leave for the death of qualifying family member, 2 additional days of accrued leave for death of employee's spouse, domestic partner, parent or child.
Merit Salary Increase: New employees will receive the starting salary, which is the first step of the salary range. After employees serve 52 weeks (2080 hours) on each step of the range, they are eligible for a merit increase to the next step.
Job Sharing: Employees may agree to job-share a position, subject to approval by a Department Head and the Director of Human Resources.
Educational Reimbursement Program: Eligible employees may be reimbursed for career-related course work up to a maximum of $850 per fiscal year. Eligible employees enrolled in an approved four (4) year College or University academic program may be reimbursed up to $800 per semester for a maximum of $1600 per fiscal year.
Parking Supplemental Downtown Stockton: The County contributes up to $20 per pay period for employees who pay for parking and are assigned to work in the Downtown Core Area.
School Activities: Employees may take up to 40 hours per year, but not more than eight (8) hours per month, to participate in their children's school activities.
Selection Procedures
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will go through the following examination process:
Written Exam: The civil service written exam is a multiple choice format. If the written exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Oral Exam: The oral exam is a structured interview process that will assess the candidate's education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise. The oral exam selection process is not a hiring interview. A panel of up to four people will determine the candidate's score and rank for placement on the eligible list. Top candidates from the eligible list are referred for hiring interviews. If the oral exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Written & Oral Exam: If both a written exam and an oral exam is administered, the written exam is weighted at 60% and the oral exam is weighted at 40% unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% on each examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Rate-out: A rate-out is an examination that involves a paper rating of the candidate's application using the following criteria: education, training, and experience. Candidates will not be scheduled for the rate-out process.
Note: The rating of 70 referred to may be the same or other than an arithmetic 70% of the total possible points.
Testing Accommodation: Candidates who require testing accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must call Human Resources Division at ************** prior to the examination date.
Veteran's Points: Eligible veterans, unmarried widows and widowers of veterans of the United States Armed Forces who have been honorably discharged and who have served during wartime shall be given veteran's points in initial appointment to County service. Eligible veterans receive 5 points and eligible disabled veterans receive 10 points. Disabled veterans must submit a recent award letter stating a 10% service connected disability issued by the United States Veterans Administration. Note: A copy of your DD214 showing the discharge type must be received in the Human Resources by the date of the examination.

Eligible Lists: Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for nine months, but may be extended by the Human Resources Director for a period which shall not exceed a total of three years from the date established.
Certification/Referral: Names from the eligible list will be referred to the hiring department by the following methods.
Rule of the Rank: The top rank or ranks of eligibles will be referred for hiring interviews. The minimum number of names to be referred will be equal to the number of positions plus nine, or 10% of the eligible list, whichever is higher. When filling nine or more positions in a department at the same time, the top rank or ranks will be referred and the minimum number of names shall be two times the number of positions to be filled or 10% of the eligible list, whichever is higher. This applies only to open competitive recruitments.
Rule of Five: The top five names will be referred for hiring interviews. This applies only to department or countywide promotional examination.
Rule of the List: For classifications designated by the Director of Human Resources, the entire eligible list will be referred to the department.
Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination. The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.
Pre-Employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grand parent, grand child or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when;
They are related to the Appointing Authority or
The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other.
Department Head may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
