The primary responsibility of the Cath Lab Tech is to provide assistance with patient care in the cardiac catheterization lab (CCL) through the provision of technical assistance to the cardiac catheterization team.
Provides direct, safe, competent and quality patient care in the Interventional Cardiology department.

Under the general supervision of Laboratory Technical Specialist and/or Laboratory Director, performs a wide variety of complex clinical laboratory tests and procedures according to established standards; maintains equipment and monitors quality control and instrument/test performance. Confirms and verifies results through an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, instrumentation and quality control review.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Performs clinical procedures by established protocols in order to provide accurate diagnosis data. Samples are accurately identified and labeled. Results are evaluated and questionable results are repeated and/or investigated. May rotate to various lab sections and performs clinical duties in a competent manner according to established procedures.
Routinely completes assigned work on time. Completes STAT requests within defined turnaround times. Critical values and issues are called to the appropriate healthcare provider.

Check inventory and rotates supplies; restocks supplies as necessary.

Qualifications
Educational / Minimum requirements:
BS in Medical Technology (MT) or Bachelor's in Chemical, Physical or Biological Sciences; experience in a clinical laboratory preferred. One (1) year minimum experience in Microbiology preferred.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
ASCP Certification strongly preferred.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Physical Requirements:
Walking, standing, sitting, bending required. Must work under the stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands requiring accuracy. Position requires ability to constantly lift light objects less than 20 lbs., perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, arm-hand steadiness, and hand-eye coordination skills; walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods; see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noises.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (flexibility may be considered)

Job Responsibilities
* Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
* Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
* Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
* Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
* Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
* Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
* Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
* Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
* Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
* Assist with processing of specimens when needed
* Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a non-traditional Bachelor's degree that meets local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
* Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required OR Bachelors in Cytogenetic/ MLS degree
* Previous clinical laboratory testing experience in cytogenetic/FISH highly preferred
* Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) is a plus
* ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment
* Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
* High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
* Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
* Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Part Time: 2nd Shift 3:00pm-10:00pm 3 days/week including weekends Pay Range: $27.00-$32.00 Based on Experience * Plates Microbiology samples * Performs testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation. * Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results.
* Calls worklists on the computer, does editing of results and data enters test results.
* Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any "rare and improbable" test results to the attention of a supervisor.
* Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
* Reviews daily specimen management reports.
* Assists the Laboratory Supervisor in training new employees.
* Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
* Performs maintenance on the automated Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis instrumentation as needed.
* Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies. Records lot numbers and compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
* Records the quality control and maintains the QC records on all assays performed.

* Ensures that QC is within appropriate limits and brings problems to supervisor.
* Reviews worklists and work from automated analyzers to ensure accuracy and timely reporting of patient results.
* Performs differentials and urine sediments as needed.
* Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training and abilities.
* Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification and reporting of department testing.
* Follows all safety protocols as outlined in safety manual.
* Identifies and pursues self-improvement needs
* Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Compliance Responsibilities
* Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, and Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA).

* Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance using the 4-Step Reporting Process

* Must have a concept with all phases of the operation of the automated instruments utilized for routine analysis.
* Good planning and organizational skills desirable.
