Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Specifically, the incumbent is expected to: 1. Perform DNA and RNA extractions from plant tissue for use in virus detection assays. 2. Conduct quantitative PCR (qPCR) and other molecular assays for the identification and quantification of sweetpotato viruses. 3. Assist in the development, optimization, and validation of diagnostic tools. 4. Maintain and propagate sweetpotato tissue culture under aseptic conditions. 5. Record, organize, and analyze experimental data with precision. 6. Maintain and operate laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with regulatory and biosafety standards. 7. Collates data and documents validation studies on new testing procedures developed in the lab, as assigned by the laboratory director. Generates operating instructions (OIs) in accordance with established guidelines and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for new procedures, as assigned by the laboratory director or designee.
