The Medical Technologist is responsible for a variety of laboratory tests in microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation and urinalysis. Job Relationships Reports to the Laboratory Manager Principal Responsibilities Responsible for the performance of both routine and special test procedures for which qualified by education, training and experience. Accountable for accurate results and the proper use of quality controls, materials and procedures. Must recognize the interdependency of tests and conditions that affect test results. Correct own errors, and use and maintain a variety of complex instruments. Watch for potential problems and correct any that arise. See that reagent inventories are kept at proper levels. Under minimal supervision, work on the development of new methods and techniques to be used in the laboratory. Serve as a methodology ""troubleshooter"" in the investigating and correcting problems. May be responsible for the work of others during the temporary absence of the manager. Participate in continuing education programs. Draw blood samples. Perform routine, special and automated tests for which qualified in hematology, coagulation urinalysis, clinical chemistry, serology, and immunology. Set up, read and report results of cultures in bacteriology. Make and read smears. Perform prescribed quality control procedure for all tests and record results in proper record books. Teach laboratory procedure to new laboratory personnel. Perform test procedures in accordance with the procedure manual. Inventory and request supplies and reagents as needed. Prepare reagents as needed. Maintain a neat and clean work area. Assist the physicians in any manner you can. Abide by the policies of this laboratory. Report test results to authorized personnel. Required to rotate between sections due to variations in workload, staffing and orientation programs. Required to rotate shifts with other laboratory personnel. Required to fill in at satellites. Medical Laboratory Scientist Duties and Responsibilities: Performs routine typing, antibody identification and resolution of immunohematological problems submitted to the lab for study, including written reports and maintenance of records, as directed by the supervisor. Assists transfusion services in the selection of compatible blood for patients and to advise them on technical questions. Displays initiative in the undertaking of these referral cases and maintains a high level of customer service and expertise to the referring transfusion service. Maintains the capabilities of the reference lab by evaluation and preparation of reagent sera, cells, and necessary chemical reagents (including lectins and enzymes), as assigned by supervisor. Performs maintenance of equipment, supplies and glassware, as assigned by supervisor. Performs periodic quality control of reagents and equipment, as assigned by supervisor. Maintains a clean and organized work area and adheres to safety guidelines, policies and procedures. Performs molecular testing, product QC and labeling of blood products. The technologist will be expected to take 24-hour call for emergency consultations with hospitals and staff personnel including, if necessary, laboratory investigation and selection of compatible blood. Performs periodic tests of proficiency and/or competency, submitted by outside organizations (CAP,CDC,AABB, etc.) or prepared by the supervisor. Provides excellent customer service, cultivating positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers and external customers. Exhibits safety, accuracy, respectfulness and efficiencies within specific job tasks. Assists with special projects as assigned. Physical Requirements: Must have visual ability to perform and interpret tests. Must have manual dexterity in manipulation of test materials and equipment, including computer keyboards. Must have the physical ability to work assigned work periods, including typical 8 hour shift plus possible extended hours when on-call, in emergency situations, or when assigned. Job Specifications: BS degree (from accredited school) in medical technology or related field with certification. MLT or other appropriate and related laboratory experience may be acceptable upon demonstration of ability. Experience in blood banking and, specifically, immunohematology, would be required for non-medical technologists. Pre-hiring examinations of technical knowledge and ability may be required. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, being grammatically correct both verbally and in writing. Weekly schedule: 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Be on call during non-office hours for 7 days in a rotating schedule when assigned. Must be able to respond by phone within 15 minutes and report to the center within 30 minutes when on-call. Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills and perform and interpret test results under pressures of time and report results and significant information in a clear manner. Your Role as a Certified Medication Tech We are looking for a dedicated Certified Medication Tech (CMT) to join our team and provide high-quality care for our residents. The CMT plays a crucial role in ensuring proper medication administration and assisting residents with daily living activities in a skilled nursing environment. What You'll Do: * Administer prescribed medications to residents and maintain accurate medical records under the supervision of licensed staff. * Verify resident identity before medication administration and document medication dosage and time. * Monitor residents for responses to medication and report any adverse reactions to the supervising nurse. * Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meals, and mobility. * Recognize and promptly report any changes in resident conditions to charge staff. * Take and record vital signs, reporting abnormalities per policy. * Identify medication shortages and immediately report to the supervisor. * Maintain accurate records of resident care, intake, and output as ordered. * Support co-workers by providing assistance as needed or requested. * Complete admission, discharge, and transfer documentation as required. Physical Demands: * Standing, sitting, walking, and changing positions frequently. * Lifting up to 25 lbs.; pushing, pulling, or lowering up to 100 lbs. * Ability to push a resident in a wheelchair up to 350 lbs. * Utilize safety equipment such as gait belts and mechanical lifts as required. Safety Requirements: * Follow proper procedures for resident care, including two-person lifts when necessary. * Utilize required PPE to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens. * Report work-related injuries immediately and participate in required documentation. * Participation in company drug testing procedures. Work Environment: This job operates in an indoor environment with adequate lighting and ventilation. It may include attending outdoor or public activities with residents. Qualifications: * Must be at least 16 years old. * High school graduate or equivalent. * Completion of a Certified Medication Tech Course approved by the State of Missouri. * Active CMT certification in good standing, with annual updates required.
