The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the performance of basic assigned Laboratory tasks. Responsibilities Performs specific duties in one or more of the following areas: Collects blood by performing venipunctures and/or capillary punctures, and other patients' specimens. Medical Technologist Associate performs routine and STAT testing procedures using laboratory equipment and/or reagents under the direct supervision of a Medical Technologist. A three (3) month rotation of each department will be completed with successful competency. Departments include Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology (Urinalysis, Coagulation, Hematology, Serology) and limited Microbiology is required. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY A Bachelor of Science degree obtained in a Biological or Chemical subject with at least thirty-five (35) semester hours of coursework across various subjects related to the clinical laboratory sciences, such as biological science, microbiology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, etc. is required. Applicant shall have graduated with a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency. EXPERIENCE None required. One year working under close supervision. Completion of a one (1) year clinical rotation including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology (Urinalysis, Coagulation, Hematology, Serology) and limited Microbiology is required.
