: This position prepares and assists physician/provider in the examination and treatment of patients in the medical office and must be available to assist and follow the provider's orders.
Principal Functions and Responsibilities
Call patients into rooms for examinations. Perform weight check, height measurement, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration readings as needed.
Verify with each patient their date of birth, their current phone number, address and insurance information, and update charts so that all necessary information is current and accurate
Review patient's medical record.
Record and obtain patient's symptoms, make observations, listen, answer questions and reassure.
Obtain past medical history and family history as appropriate. Review current medication and review patient allergies.
Record all of the above in the patient's chart, and sign.
Assist physicians and physician assistants with examinations as necessary. Lift patients on and off exam tables and in and out of wheelchairs.
Set up procedures to be done, i.e., remove lesions, suture wounds, cast fractures, dress burns.
Explain procedures to patients and instruct on follow-up care.
Give therapeutic injections, 1M and subcutaneous injections as ordered by providers, as well as allergy injections, tine tests or PPD when needed and as ordered.
Irrigate ears, change dressings on wounds, test eyes, give enemas, and perform any standing orders predetermined by the provider, including but not limited to UAs, strep tests, etc.
Handle phone calls. Listen, reassure, advise and reinforce what the physician or PA has told them. Call pharmacies with prescription refills.
Call patients with reports, report explanations, and make referral appointments.
Complete insurance pre-authorizations for referrals and prescribed medicines.
Generally keep exam rooms clean and organized. Keep supplies, equipment and instruments in place and ready for use.
In coordination with the Clinic Manager, order all medical supplies and maintain supply inventory.
Work with pharmaceutical representatives to keep samples current and sample closet organized.
Provide specific diets as ordered by physicians.
Prepare for OB checks, including blood pressure, weight, dip urine and fetal heart tones with Doppler.
Perform well-baby checks, including growth charts, immunizations and IRIS lookups.
Remain at clinic, available to physicians and physician assistants, until all patients have been cared for.
Vaccine for Children program support
