Position Objective:
The Medical Assistant is a clinical role and is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center's policy.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or providers' instructions to patients.
Prepare both the patient and room for examination.
Complete patient phone calls including, but not limited to, proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, transitional care management, and complete documentation with telephone encounters accordingly.
Provide both patient and provider support during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the physician as directed.
Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.

Position Requirements/ Skills:

• Prepare medication refill requests within 24 hours of receiving them.
• Verify pharmacy information, last visit, last fill, insurance, pick up or mail etc.
• Prior authorizations should be handled within 24 hours of receiving the request from the pharmacy or insurance company. Document all interactions with patient and pharmacy.
• Update medications and respective information on patient's charts.
• Provide guidance and education to patients on the details of what has been prescribed and when/ where to get the medication;
• Provide information for afterhours call line and information to call if patient has a question. Document this interaction in patient chart.

The Dermatology Medical Assistant will assist the provider(s) with patient care. They will create an atmosphere that reflects the level of standards and care that patients can expect to receive from this practice. The provider(s) entrusts the goodwill of patients to the assistant, therefore extending the physicians relationship with the patient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, assist provider with patient care.
Escort patient to and from exam room, help patient prepare for exam. Review Health History form to make sure complete.
Clean and straighten exam room between patients.
Organize patient flow according to protocol.
Assure smooth patient flow by prioritizing the following: rooming patients; taking appropriate patient histories, setting up room for anticipated procedures; sterilizing used instruments, preparing an adequate supply of surgical trays; anticipating providers needs; assisting provider during exams and procedures, and returning patient/pharmacy calls in a timely manner.

Be familiar and compliant with OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen standards.
Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory all medical equipment and instruments. Keep appropriate records of maintenance program.
Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
Maintain infection control policies of office
Upkeep and cleanliness of exam rooms, supply cabinets and drawers always well stocked.
Sorting, storing, restocking, and inventory of all medical supplies. Inform clinical supervisor of supply needs.
Document all medical instructions given to patients.
Check and respond to email communications in MS Outlook and EMR throughout the day.
Knowledgeable and compliant of HIPAA privacy standards.
Knowledgeable of all dermatologic and cometic/aesthetic products and procedures in office. Be able to explain both to patients.
Assist provider with CPT coding and rules. Be knowledgeable of office financial policies and fees.
Obtaining preauthorization for procedures and/or medications as required.
Schedule appointments for patients with other specialists, fax appropriate records if necessary.
Maintain order in sample closet and monitor samples to assure adequate supply and proper dispensing.
Help with office housekeeping duties as directed.
