Key Responsibilities:
Maintains patient flow during clinic hours.
Documents review of systems; measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height; updates past and current medical, social and family history; reviews medications and updates medication list at each visit.
Correctly records patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
May assist in training of new employees.
Prepares patient charts in EMR for visits by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing to make certain that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports and other medical records necessary to help the physician care for the patient are in the patient's chart. Accesses and navigates websites or calls outside facilities to obtain necessary information.
May act as Super User for Electronic Medical Record.
Refills medications and pre-authorizes medications including communicating with the patient, pharmacy, or insurance company as needed to complete the task.
Maintains recording of patient samples and other medications and disposes expired medications.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients; maintains clean, fully supplied exam rooms.
Orders medical supplies as needed.
Completes patient assistance paperwork/requests as needed.
Obtains pertinent medical information from patients to facilitate medical decision making per specific office protocol procedures.
Returns calls as needed.
Responds to MyChart as needed.
Works in-baskets, daily work flow logs, and work queues in EMR/Practice Management system.
May coordinate/oversee work queues in office.
Answers incoming calls, schedules appointments, checks-in and out patients, and completes pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries as needed.
Operates EKG, cardiac monitors, and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests as needed and other clinical duties such as administering vaccinations, phlebotomy and cast removal as assigned.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
Key Skills; Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR and scheduling systems).
Strong verbal and social skills to facilitate working respectfully with patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers, and drug reps in person or by telephone.
Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices as requested or needed.
Two (2) to five (5) years of Medical Assistant or other relevant experience.
Practice in different care settings (eg. Primary care, Speciality, EMT, etc.).
Complementary clinical skills such as phlebotomy, performing EKGs, stiches removal, splinting, etc.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
Associate degree
BLS from AHA
Certified/Registered Medical Assistant from a certifying body .

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Dermatology Associates of Northern Kentucky is seeking a full-time and part-time Medical Assistant to work in their expanding office. They will train to assist in minor surgical procedures. No weekends are required.
DUTIES:
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations; keep rooms neat and clean.
Prepare equipment and aid physicians during treatment, examination, and surgical procedures.
Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
Interview patients to obtain medical information.
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
Educate patient as required after physician establishes the treatment plan.
Ensure patients understand treatment plans, the proper use of their medications, and their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
Practice confidentiality in accordance with adhering to HIPAA standards.
Ensure provider notes are entered accurately and completely into patient charts.
Attend required meetings and assist with community education as requested.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have medical assistant certification OR have two years of recent, verifiable medical assistant employment.
Computer experience and/or EHR experience required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patients chart.
Document the appropriate patient history in patients chart.
Provide clear direction to the patient, address patient concerns about the exam and document appropriately in-patient chart
Prepare the patient for the exam
Assist the provider(s) during the examination.
Perform nursing procedures under the supervision of the providers.
Provide instructions to patient under direction of the provider(s).
Collecting/preparing laboratory specimens and performing basic laboratory tests.
Preparing and administering medications as directed by the provider.
Ensure all information is complete and accurate in-patient chart.
Ensure completion of all forms vital to the revenue cycle (i.e. verification/clarification of orders, waivers for non-covered services, encounter form)
Maintain adequate level of supplies in exam rooms and workstation
Clean and disinfect exam rooms.
Perform cleaning, maintenance, and/or sterilization of equipment and instruments. Report malfunction of equipment to appropriate supervisor.
OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA compliance.
Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
Assist with completion of patient requests.
Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/provider/pharmacy calls.
Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to providers.
Completion of referral process/outpatient test scheduling, and precertification.
Timely and accurate filing/distribution of all patient information.
Interact with Central Billing Office as needed to resolve patient issues.
If working as a scribe, will follow guidelines for scribing as described in the Scribe policy.
Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Practice Manager.
MA CLINICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements vary by practice and could include any or all of the following:
Obtaining vital signs (manual blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature)
Assisting providers with exams and procedures
Administering injections and immunizations
Performing EKG and other essential laboratory procedures
Collecting patient samples (fingerstick, throat/nose swabs, urine)
Answer and triage patient phone calls and questions.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: High School Diploma/G.E.D.
Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Must have one of the following:
One year of experience as an MA or CNA
Completion of an MA Externship
Completion of SEP MA Internship
Completion of EMT Certification Program
Degree in Health or Biological Sciences inclusive of hands-on clinical patient care activities
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Preferred: An approved credential, such as the CCMA, CMA, RMA, ARMA or EMT
