General Summary:
Perform back-office duties under the direction of a physician or APC to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. Responsibilities include obtaining patient history, vital signs, and assisting in performing simple office procedures as trained. May also perform front-office duties necessary for the efficient day-to-day operation of an outpatient physician office practice. Mentor and train staff in the Medical Assistant I position
Responsibilities:
1. Obtains patient history and measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height. Records information as appropriate in Epic. Documents chief complaints and all actions taken. Alerts the physician/APC of problems, concerns and/or abnormalities.
2. Set up exam/procedure rooms, including instruments for minor procedures. Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment and clinical areas following defined procedures and protocols.
3. Assist the physician/APC with simple patient procedures. Act as chaperone for all female patients as needed.
4. Maintain patient record, treat as a legal document requiring proper documentation and strict confidentiality. Manages/maintains Joint Commission and CLIA requirements for in-office logs.
5. Greet patients and families upon arrival and initiate all proper forms for the medical and financial record, obtaining the patient and/or responsible party's signature as necessary.
6. Perform patient registration, obtaining insurance authorizations, following current insurance authorization procedures.
7. Schedules new and follow up patient appointments. Schedule referrals to other providers as needed.
8. Maintain efficient patient flow.
9. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Credential(s): Basic Life Support
Experience:
Required: Eighteen (18) months of experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, or Patient Care Tech in a clinical setting. Or 1-year experience if completed a medical assistant program, certified nursing assistant program, or completion of Bayhealth's Internship MA Training Program.

As an Medical Assistant / Technician, you will work directly with our patients to ensure they receive the high level of customer service and patient centered care that have made Simon Eye Associates the most trusted provider of eye care in Delaware.
What You'll Do:
* Obtain patient medical history including chief complaint, history of present illness, past ocular and general history, family ocular and general history, and history of allergy and medications.
* Conduct pre-testing and specialized tests for exams.
* Educate patients on the insertion and removal of contact lenses.
* Provide patients with proper lens wear and eye care information.
* Assist patients with contact lens orders by explaining their benefits and providing cost comparison information.
* Process contact lens orders including placing order, verification, preparation, dispensing, following up on late and/or back ordered lenses, and assisting patients with questions regarding their orders.
* Resolve patient issues by obtaining and evaluating all relevant information, seek assistance from and coordinate with other Simon Eye departments when needed.
* Communicate with providers and staff throughout daily events.
What You'll Need:
* At least 2 years of experience providing exceptional customer service, preferably in a fast-paced medical environment
* Medical Assistant degree preferred
* High level of professionalism and self-motivation
* Ability to multi-task; to work quickly and accurately while maintaining a positive patient experience
* Proficiency in using computer databases including typing accuracy
* Ability to work at least one evening per week and two Saturdays per month to meet patient needs

Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be 18+ years old and authorized to work in the US
Successful completion of a background check and drug screen
Ability to obtain proof of vaccinations as required by specific site
Typing speed 45+ WPM
Ability to fluently read, write, and understand English
Part-time: Available to work two shifts per week (16-24 hours per week) for a minimum of 6 consecutive months
Full-time: Available to work three shifts per week (32+ hours per week) for a minimum of 12 consecutive months
Ability to work shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours
Ability to understand HIPAA regulations and appropriately maintain confidential patient and client information
