* Prepare returns for shipment with all appropriate documentation.
* All designated areas are stocked adequately. Expiration dates are routinely checked. Outdated supplies are removed and/or replaced.
* Maintains prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic/location protocol.
All equipment is properly maintained, and adequate records are kept.
* An inventory of instruments and equipment is kept current.
* Instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order. All maintenance is documented.
Maintain current or compliant status as determined by the appropriate accrediting body. You must let your Supervisor and Human Resources know if your certification/registration status changes.

Position Summary:
The Scribe assists the Doctors of Ophthalmology and/or Optometry with documentation of the patient exam into the patient's electronic health record (EHR). Partners with other clinic staff to facilitate efficient clinic flow and ensure quality patient care. Starting pay is $18.50-21.00/hour.
Schedule:
This position works Monday-Friday with hours varying between 7:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday mornings on rotation 7:30a-12p.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic.
* Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.
* Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.
* Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.
* Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.
* Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane procedures.
* Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each work day; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.
* Run EHR reports at end of clinic to ensure completion of patient documents.

Job Summary:
Under immediate supervision of the Health Center Manager, the MA, or LPN performs routine clinic duties associated with a reproductive health program within the scope of their training, certification or licensure. They are responsible for providing the highest level of customer service and patient care as well as supporting the operations of the health center. Some of the responsibilities include conducting patient history review, performing & processing labs, providing contraceptive supplies, and unbiased education. They will also help with inventory and assist our Clinicians when needed. They are advocates in implementing our mission of “Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all.” They may perform other related duties to support health center operations as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Medical Assistant (MA)
Completion of a Medical Assisting diploma program, or Associate degree in Medical Assisting, or current EMT/Paramedic licensure, or six months' experience as an HCA II at PPNCS
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate for healthcare providers
High School diploma or equivalent

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, document in electronic medical record, and prepare patients for examinations/procedures. Monitor patient vital signs.
Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture. Communicate lab test results to clinician.
Process receipt of incoming lab results.
Set up exam rooms and prepare patients for their clinical visits.
Provide factual patient education. Provide additional education after clinician or RN assessment. Including explanations of all FDA approved birth control methods. Provide unbiased specific instruction on the client's selected birth control method.
Assist clinician as needed.
Provide contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, perform venipuncture, and manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols under direct supervision of licensed nurse practitioner, physician's assistant, physician, or registered nurse.
Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, inventory reconciliation and tracking.
Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up to date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety).
Provide factual, unbiased information to patients seeking abortion.
Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion.
Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the patients' needs.
All health center staff are expected to participate in the onboarding of new employees and supporting the cross-training of established employees.
Follow all laws regarding mandatory reporting.
Participate in team approach to patient care working cooperatively with others to achieve productivity standards and exceptional customer service.
Maintain a working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services.
Collaborate with and provide coverage as needed at health centers in assigned neighborhoods.
As appropriate, assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability, and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-surgery.
Perform ultrasound medical services in accordance with Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G).
Supervise and observe patients post procedure recovery.
Comply with all laws governing services.
Comply with all policies, procedures, rules and applicable laws and regulations governing abortion and other care services.
Immunization Requirements:
Hepatitis B vaccination records and titers
Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination records or proof of immunization
Chicken Pox vaccination records or proof of immunization
Tetanus shot documentation
Tuberculosis PPD Skin Test that is no older than 12 months

Calls in new prescriptions and refills to the pharmacy after provider has reviewed and approved.
Calls patient with normal lab results, or normal results that have been reviewed by the physician with specific instructions by provider.
Checks provider's out box and review all papers in the box to ensure they are initialed by the provider prior to going to medical records for scanning.
Fully participate and contribute to the patient centered health care home.

Responsibilities
Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing
Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and any required or requested ancillary testing including but not limited to vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram testing and respirator fit testing
Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.)
Assist providers during examination and treatment
Responsible for performing routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician as well as triaging emergent patients as needed
Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care
Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating clinician
Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations
Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices as well as testing processes used in the center
Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms
Maintain and operate all medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures
Notify supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or facility is not operating as expected
In partnership with center leadership, assist with patient flow and volume
Keep patients informed of expected wait times during all aspects of the center visit
Responsible for clerical tasks in both the front and back office associated with patient care and proper record keeping
Ensure accuracy in documentation
Perform front office duties: greet patients, obtain authorization, check in/out, communicate wait times, answer multi-line telephone system, and distribute employer results/paperwork as needed
Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules
Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required
Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance throughout the facility
Complete any applicable training including but not limited to clinical competency training that occurs monthly

Qualifications
Education Level: Vocational/Technical/Business School
Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program with completion of an externship highly preferred, OR at least one year of direct patient care experience as a medical assistant, OR military medical specialist experience (must meet credentials in the state of employment in accordance with state requirements and applicable regulations)
Job-Related Experience
Customarily has at least six months or more of medical assistant experience
Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology
Working knowledge of occupational medicine requirements (state specific) preferred

About this position
The Medical Assistant will manage the patient flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their patients. Patients come from a variety of backgrounds and various age groups requiring individualized care including infants, children, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics.
