Dell Medical School is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Muskuloskeletal Institute.
Purpose
The Medical Assistant will serve as the primary point of contact throughout the cycle of care for patients served in the Integrated Practice Units (IPUs) at UT Health Austin to include collecting vital signs, conducting patient assessments during clinic visits, and assisting providers during patient exams.
Responsibilities
Provide support and guidance to patients who are completing pre-clinic surveys. Work with a multidisciplinary team of providers to identify and schedule patient visits. Follow-up with patients who have not completed surveys to identify and address potential barriers.
Set patient expectations about team-based model and clinic experience. Attend multidisciplinary case conference and team huddles to convey patient's situation and background to the team. As indicated by the patient, attend visit to serve as an advocate and combine treatment recommendations at the end of the visit into a viable care plan.
Establish follow-up of care plan based on preferences and choices (e.g. virtual monitoring, virtual touch points, or in-person/phone follow-up). Facilitate patient's journey through the healthcare system (scheduling, referrals, and obtaining medications). Provide reminders for care plan tasks and support behavior modification.
Serve as the first point of contact for patients served in the IPUs. When appropriate, refer patients to external services to ensure their needs are fully met. Support and assist providers during patient exams, treatments, or procedures. Maintain and restock supplies and equipment for patient exam and treatment rooms.
Support and participate in educational and research initiatives within the clinic. Participate in critical evaluation of patient care to ensure that the program continues to improve and evolve in its care pathways.

Required Qualifications
Medical Assistant certification to be completed within the first year of hire. Requires strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-physician practice environment; Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Medical Assistant and 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant. A good understanding of the care ecosystem in Travis County around social services, transportation, etc. is a plus. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Additional certifications such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health career Association (NHA); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
Salary Range

Working Conditions
Combination of office, exam, and other clinical settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic setting. Hospital Corpsmen (HM) assist health care professionals in providing medical care to Navy personnel and their families. They may function as clinical or specialty technicians, medical administrative personnel and healthcare providers at medical treatment facilities. Specifically, Hospital Corpsmen may be called upon to:
Perform emergency medical treatment on SEALs, Seabees, Marines and other military personnel injured in the field, as well as on Sailors aboard ships or aircraft
Perform emergency dental treatment as well as construct dental crowns and bridges, process
dental X-rays and operate X-ray equipment
Serve as an operating room technician for general and specialized surgery
Help administer a wide range of preventive care and medications, including immunizations and intravenous fluids
Conduct physical examinations and assisting in the treatment of diseases and injuries
Maintain patient treatment records, conduct research and perform clinical tests
Assist Navy Physicians and Nurses in a variety of medical fields, including, but not limited to: radiology, physical therapy, phlebotomy, dental, surgery, family medicine, pathology, womens health and more

Job purpose
The Medical Assistant (MA) assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or mid-level provider. Helps patients by providing information, services and assistance.
Duties and responsibilities
Greets patients, introduces self, and escorts to exam room.
Verifies patient information, medical history, medications, and confirms purpose of visit.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts (Paper chart or EMR/EHR).
