Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Provides the right medication to the right person at the right time in the right dose and by the right route ensuring all changes in medication are responded to in a timely manner. Stores medications correctly, cleans and locks med cart or other storage system. Follows location policy for missed medications, accidentally dropped or spit out by the resident, and medication errors. Follows procedures for documentation, including narcotics sign out. Follows up with observation and documentation of resident response to medication received. May not administer medications used for intermittent positive-pressure breathing (IPPB) treatments or other methods involving medicated inhalation treatments. May not administer PRN medications unless authorization is obtained from the facility's nurse or the resident's treating physician. May not crush medications unless the initial prior authorization is obtained from the facility's licensed nurse. May not administer medications by way of the nasogastric tube. May not apply topical medications that involve the treatment of skin that is broken or when a specific aseptic technique is ordered by the attending physician.
