As a Full Time Medical Assistant, you'll provide care to client employees and their dependents in our Health Center located in Richmond, VA. The scheduled hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30a - 5:00p.
What You'll Do
Interviews patients and measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height)
Maintains patient health records to ensure accurate and up-to-date records
Prepares treatment rooms, cleans and sterilizes instruments
Medication administration including injections, performs laboratory tests, operates EKGs and other diagnostic equipment as permitted by state regulations
Performs administrative tasks, assists at the front desk, schedules appointments, makes follow-up calls, and orders medical supplies
Performs other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
National certification in Medical Assisting from a Premise Health approved organization OR Certificate/Diploma and Transcripts from an accredited Medical Assistant program with hands on externship completed and passed- total online courses are not accepted
Current certification with hands-on training in AHA, ARC or equivalent Basic Life Support for health care providers is required
CMA certification required from the American Association of Medical Assistants, the National Center of Competency Testing, the National Certification Medical Association, American Medical Technologists, or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board of Medical Examiners (South Carolina only)

JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Office Assistant provides essential administrative and clinical support to ensure the efficient operation of a medical practice. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage and process patient referrals to specialty providers, ensuring appointments are scheduled accurately and in a timely manner.
Provide bilingual support (Spanish and English) to patients, ensuring they understand referral processes, appointments, and required documentation.
Communicate with external provider offices, insurance companies, and specialists to confirm appointments, verify availability, and resolve referral-related concerns.
Monitor referral progress, follow up with patients, and ensure all referrals are completed within expected timeframes.
Maintain thorough and up-to-date referral documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Assist with insurance verification, prior authorizations, and obtaining necessary approvals for specialty services
Ensure that patients receive reminders and follow-up notifications about their referral appointments.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Measures and records patient vital signs; records patient interview and medical history.
* Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel.
* Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient.
* Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel.
* Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic waived lab tests.
* Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures; uses CPR skills when necessary, all under physician supervision.
* Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safety standards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
* Processes patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them to other team members as appropriate; calls patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician.
* Upon physician approval and authorization, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy. Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; and follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing.
* Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls.
* Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager's discretion.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

* Graduation from a nationally accredited Program in one of the following is required: Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician Program, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic
* A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, EMT or Paramedic required
* BLS for Healthcare Providers required
* Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
* EMR system experience preferred
PAY RANGE:
$17.0 - $24.26 Hourly
The posted pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for this position. Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for a bonuses or commissions.
