The Nursing Station Tech position is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing receptionist duties at the station, and maintaining patient care areas.

Qualifications

Job Summary:

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, document in electronic medical record, prepare patients for examinations/procedures. Assess, address or triage patient complaints. Monitor patient vital signs.
Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture. Communicate lab test results. Assure appropriate follow-up of lab reports. Process receipt of incoming lab results.
Provide factual patient education. Provide additional education in consultation with clinician or physician assessment. Including explanations of all FDA approved birth control methods. Provide unbiased specific instruction on the client's selected birth control method.
Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and provide supporting materials and/or education for service based on the patients' needs.
Provide factual, unbiased information to clients seeking abortion.
Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion.
Refer patients per protocol, perform follow-up functions, and assure complete documentation of care plan.
Follow all federal, state, and local laws regarding mandated reporting, abortion services, healthcare services, and HIPAA.
Provide contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, perform venipuncture, and manage patients with medical emergencies per PPNCS protocols Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, and tracking as assigned.
Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up to date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety, MS&G).
Maintain a working knowledge of Planned Parenthood policies and procedures and apply these to patient and clinic services.
Supervise nursing functions as delegated by the Health Center Manager or clinician/physician.
All health center staff are expected to participate in the onboarding of new employees and supporting the cross-training of established employees.
Follow all state laws regarding mandatory reporting.
Collaborate with and provide coverage as needed at health centers in assigned neighborhoods.
Administer mild and moderate sedation.
As appropriate, assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability, and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-procedure.
Perform ultrasound medical services in accordance with Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&G)
Supervise and assess patient's post procedure recovery.
Perform other clinical skills within the scope of their training and applicable state laws.

Position Overview:

* Keeps updated on current surgical practice, medications, and legal/ethical issues.
* Follows best practice recommendations including but not limited to AORN, AST, Perioperative Guidelines, and organization wide policies and procedures. Works closely with the surgeon while recognizing surgeon preferences and preference card details.
* In coordination with the surgical team, assembles the necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure. Checks that all equipment is functioning properly before use. Notifies RN of defects, removes defective equipment from the patient care area, labels and documents defect(s) and need for repair in order to maintain a safe environment.
* Practices safe site surgery techniques including but not limited to aseptic technique, time out standard work and stops the line when safety issues or concerns with patient care occur.
* Acts as a scrub personnel during the intra-operative procedure.
* Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts with the RN in accordance to policy/procedure.
* Consults with the RN to make revisions to surgeon preference cards.
* Demonstrates an understanding of surgical procedures. * Is constantly vigilant to the safety needs of the patient and takes necessary precautions as warranted.

About the Role

* Front desk duties, including: patient scheduling, medical record requests and abstraction, documentation, coordinate specialist visits, referrals, and other care outside of the clinic, check-in, check-out, etc.
* Records accurate and pertinent data in the medical record according to documentation guidelines
* Process test results and provide the patient with timely results via e-message, mail or phone as directed in written instructions by the Provider
* Participates in outreach to patients to drive engagement among eligible patient groups
* Maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments
About You
* Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant, preferably in Primary Care. May vary based on clinic needs
* Graduation from a formal Medical Assistant program or other related program
* National or state-specific MA certification or registration is strongly preferred. MA certification or registration is required for employment in States where certification/registration is required.
* CPR/BLS certification required at time of start date
* Phlebotomy experience is preferred

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team (gastroenterologists, APP, dietitian and psychologist) and, if suitably qualified, would be eligible for a fully funded personal Chair. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with the #1 Hospital System in TX and #7 GI and GI Surgery program in the nation (recognized by U.S. News & World Report) providing high-quality patient care while engaging in clinical research and education.
This position offers an exceptional opportunity to further develop these areas of gastroenterology and clinical research within the Josephine Hughes Sterling Program in Neurogastroenterology/Motility and/or Esophageal Disorders and the Fondren Foundation Food and Health Alliance:
* Full service esophageal and GI motility lab providing the complete range of motility, GE reflux and related testing. This includes participating in a Houston Methodist network-wide cloud-based platform for the evaluation of motility recordings.
* Dedicated GI dietitian.
* Dedicated Gastro-psychologist.

* Provide expert consultation for patients with complex disorders of GI and esophageal function, including, but not limited to, GERD and related disorders, dysphagia, constipation, and gastroparesis by integrating leading edge approaches in patient management.
