About this position
The Medical Assistant will manage the patient flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their patients. What you will do:
You will play a meaningful role in supporting providers and patients during their clinic visits.
Monitoring clinic schedules, greeting and guiding patients to their examination room, and collecting pertinent medical information for their health records.
Act as valued partner in delivering an outstanding patient experience by coordinating and communicating with other members of the health care team, including nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and physicians, among others.
Depending on scope of certification or license, some employees will be assisting with minor in office procedures, giving injections and immunizations and other laboratory/sample collections.
What you will need:
As a Medical Assistant (MA): Medical Assisting Diploma from a CHEA/CAAHEP accredited program (CMA or RMA preferred)
As an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Active Minnesota Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license

Essential Functions:
Performs routine laboratory procedures within established guidelines.
Verifies patient identification.
Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
Collects sample, evaluates specimen's acceptability, and labels specimen.
Accurate and timely processing of specimens.
Trouble-shoots minor equipment issues.
Stocks, rotates, and requests phlebotomy supplies on a regular basis to ensure proper availability.
Greets patients, performs check-in process, and responds to questions and patient needs.
Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.

Cleans rooms between patients, changing table paper and cleaning tables and counter tops etc. as necessary.
Sets up rooms for procedures with the designated instruments and sterile field. Explains procedure to patient and obtains informed consent. Provides wound care instructions to patient after procedure.
Logs in and out all pathology specimens and orders for other lab work
MAINTENANCE
Transports used instruments from room to instrument maintenance area, keeping safety standards in mind. Cleans instruments, wraps appropriately, and autoclaves.
Checks rooms at end of day to make certain they are stocked for the next day.
Maintains inventory of medical and surgical supplies and places orders appropriately.
Keeps nursing station in order, making certain that all expired medications are appropriately discarded. Calls pharmaceutical representatives for more samples when needed.
OTHER
Calls patients with the results of biopsies as directed by the physician.
Returns phone calls to patients, pharmacies, etc., giving advice or refilling prescriptions as directed by the physician.
Takes photographs as needed.
Treats all patients and other staff members with respect, is polite and professional.
Additional duties assigned by the medical assistant supervisor, practice manager or physician(s).
