Responsibilities

These positions provide assistance in all aspects of patient care in conjunction with administrative and clinical staff at FloridaMedical Practice Plan clinics. Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area or clinic at a proficient level and independent of supervision. Makes recommendations to improve programs, products, processes or services.
Under the direction of the Practice Manager, performs all aspects of intake for patients, including taking accurate histories, patient vital signs, vision and hearing screens, and other screenings or questionnaires as needed by the assigned clinician. Ensures all electronic health record (EHR) information is current and accurate. Prepares exam room and equipment to assist clinicians with exams and/or procedures. Provides concise and informative patient presentations to clinicians prior to exam. Responsible for carrying out clinical tasks in accordance with established standing orders and protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care. Must meet competency guidelines in performing minor procedures such as point of care testing, venipunctures, blood pressure checks, splinting and applying wound dressings, as needed. Performs high-level disinfection of exam rooms and equipment.
Assists clinicians during entire patient encounter, documents the visit as it occurs in real time. Accurately and thoroughly completes clinical notes of patient visits, orders, and procedures performed by the clinician for review and approval of the clinician. May perform as medical scribe for assigned clinician, as needed. Anticipates clinicians' needs to facilitate a smooth and efficient workflow. Performs duties in a discreet and tactful manner so as not to distract the physician from medical care at the direction of a provider. Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.
Assists with coordination of patient care between visits. Triages patient phone calls and provides in-basket management support for clinicians. Notifies patients of test results and other follow-up tasks as directed by clinicians. Manages patient expectations and is able to resolve patient concerns independently. Assists with schedule coordination for diagnostic testing. Obtains prior authorizations as needed for diagnostic testing, medications and procedures as needed. Assists with traces and regulatory readiness for quality and patient care.
Assists with front office administration duties such as screening incoming phone calls, answering routine questions and scheduling patient appointments as directed for FMPP clinics. Assists in monitoring the clinical schedule for no shows and rescheduling opportunities. Maintains communication with the clinic team including nursing staff and/or clinician regarding unscheduled patients and patients who appear to need care prior to the first available appointment. Assists with referral coordination by exhibiting an understanding of insurance guidelines, obtaining authorizations as required by insurance, using standard procedures within EHR and following up on referrals as requested by the clinician. Exhibits a willingness to float to all areas of need. Performs administrative and clinical duties as assigned. Completes billing transfers with laboratory companies/outside vendors.
Position may be required to work one late evening per month. Attends one customer service training session from a list of courses identified by practice leadership. On a monthly basis, participates in an all-staff meeting. Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the mission and goals of FMPP.
Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED and two years of experience. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
* Valid Certified Medical Assistant Certification or Registration (CMA, NCMA, RMA or CCMA).
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification issued by a certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
* Ability to work full-time and float to other FMPP clinics, as needed.
* Post-job offer/prior to hire requirements:
* Documentation of current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician reporting negative results within the past six months.

• Takes medication orders from psychiatrist/APRN/PA and phones in to pharmacy if needed. Appropriate documentation, as well as confirmation phone call to client, is expected within 24 hours.
• Prepare medication refill requests within 24 hours of receiving them.
• Verify pharmacy information, last visit, last fill, insurance, pick up or mail etc.
• Prior authorizations should be handled within 24 hours of receiving the request from the pharmacy or insurance company. Document all interactions with patient and pharmacy.
• Update medications and respective information on patient's charts.
• Provide guidance and education to patients on the details of what has been prescribed and when/ where to get the medication;
• Provide information for afterhours call line and information to call if patient has a question. Document this interaction in patient chart.
Requirements
Education/Training Level:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• One-year experience in healthcare, medical staff services preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Medical Assisting certification preferred.

Patient education (instruct patients how to use nebulizer machines and or inhalers)

Keep copies of patient information current and available
Work reports for population management
