Responsibilities: 25% Processing, embedding, sectioning tissue: Under direct supervision this individual will perform research histologic procedures on human and animal tissues to include but not limited to routine histology, processing and embedding, and microtomy/cryotomy sectioning for microscopic examination 25% Staining of tissue: Individual will perform staining of tissues with special stains, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence procedures, both manual and automated. 25% Slide scanning and image acquisition: Individual will set up whole slide scanner for initial image acquisition for chromogenic (brightfield) and immunofluorescence staining. 10% Inventory/lab management: Individual will monitor reagent inventory and order as needed. 10% Communication of results: Individual will work with colleagues, researchers and supervisor to communicate results, troubleshoot and for clarification when needed. 5% Instrument maintenance: Individual will perform general instrument maintenance and schedule preventive maintenance as well as emergency repairs when needed. Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a health-related field and one year journey-level work experience in the specialty area; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a health-related field and two years advanced work experience in the specialty area. A master's degree in a health-related field and six months entry-level experience may be substituted for the requirements stated above. Previous technical supervisory work experience is required for supervisory positions.
