Medstar Health company history timeline

1998

1998 - Helix Health and MidAtlantic boards of directors announce and vote unanimously to merge the two organizations, renaming the organization MedStar Physician Partners (MPP)

In 1998, Medlantic Healthcare Group merged with Helix Health, a group of four Baltimore, Maryland hospitals.

1999

Helix/Medlantic was renamed MedStar Health on February 1, 1999.

2000

On July 1, 2000, Georgetown University Hospital became part of MedStar Health.

2001

Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care proudly recognizes MedStar Health and its Maryland-area hospitals for winning Delmarva's Excellence Award for Quality Improvement, a record 18 times since its inception in 2001.

2005

MedStar Health received the 2005 Bridging the Gap Pioneer Award.

2008

On February 1, 2008, MedStar Health merged with Montgomery General Hospital, Montgomery County's oldest acute care hospital.

The first recognition was November 2008.

2009

In September, 2009, St Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland merged with MedStar Health, becoming the ninth hospital in the system, and the first in Southern Maryland.

Franklin Square receives the 2009 Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award and made four top 50 lists in the 2009 United States News and World Report Best Hospitals issue.

2010

MedStar Health is featured in the February 2010 issue of Baltimore magazine as one of the region's "Best Places to Work."

Franklin Square made the top 50 list in the 2010 United States News and World Report Best Hospitals issue.

2011

2011 - Chesapeake Cardiovascular Associates (CCA) joined MedStar Physician Partners (MPP)

2012

MedStar Franklin Square receives the 2012 Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award and is listed among as Maryland's #8 Best Hospital by United States News and World Report.

2012 - 15 MPP offices received the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Physician Practice Connections – Patient Centered Medical Home (PPC-PCMH) award Level 3 Recognition

2013

2013 - MedStar Physician Partners (MPP) expanded to 58 sites

2014

MedStar Franklin Square is recognized for leadership in environmental sustainability with the 2014 “Partner for Change” Award.

2015

MedStar St Mary’s Hospital recognized with 2015 Quality Innovation Award from the Virginia Health Quality Center (VHQC).

2016

MedStar Franklin Square received the 2016 Women’s Choice Award® for being one of America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery.

2017

MedStar Franklin names 65 Top Docs in the 2017 edition of Baltimore Magazine Top Docs.

2018

MedStar Franklin Square received the 2018 Women’s Choice Award® for being one of America’s Best Breast Centers.

2019

In 2019, as a proud member of MedStar Health, MedStar Franklin Square currently has 1,018 physicians (487 employed and 531 affiliated) and 1,066 nurses.

2020

MedStar Franklin Square broke ground on a new $70 million surgical pavilion, scheduled to open in 2020, designed to optimize surgical processes, safety, and patient outcomes.
