Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials. Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing. Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments. Repairs maintenance parts as needed. Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments. Order and maintain project related material as required. Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made. Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result. Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required. Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices. Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor. Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job. Must have a basic knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings. Waste is identified and eliminated. Constantly seeks additional work to utilize time to its maximum efficiency. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works from routed instructions, manufacturing process plan, blueprint or verbal instructions. Works under close direction of supervision. Uses measuring instruments (scale, dial calipers, thread gages, indicators and micrometers). Tram in machine head when applicable. Make set-ups using vice, angle plate, v-block, rotary table or super spacer. Mill, drill, tap and ream to produce machined parts of basic geometric shapes. Deburr parts. Completes required documentation. Understanding of multi-axis CNC machining processes and machine functions. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required. Must be a US citizen. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILL: Two-year high school vocational training in machine trades or equivalent experience in a CNC shop. Mechanical and spatial aptitude. Ability to amend G&M codes on the machine. Ability to effectively interpret blueprints. Ability to do math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, conversion to and from decimal points, geometry). RELATIONSHIPS: Develops close working relationship with supervision, quality control personnel and the tool crib attendant. Demonstrates a highly cooperative demeanor with other employees and willingly takes the initiative to help others succeed. JOB ENVIRONMENT: Works primarily in a manufacturing facility or machine shop environment with industrial machinery and equipment. Exposure to machine oils, coolants, and metal shavings is common. The work area may experience moderate to high noise levels from operating machinery. Temperature-controlled environment is typical, though some areas may be warmer due to machinery operation. Position requires adherence to strict quality control standards and security protocols due to defense contract requirements. May involve working with secured materials. Work is performed in accordance with aerospace and defense industry standards such as AS9100 or ISO certifications. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods, typically 10-12 hours per shift. Requires ability to lift and maneuver materials and parts weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier items using mechanical aids such as cranes. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination essential for precise measurements and adjustments. Visual acuity necessary to read blueprints, technical drawings, and measurement instruments accurately.
