The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. LinkedIn Marketing Solutions (LMS) is the largest and fastest growing scaled B2B Advertising Platform in the world. The LMS engineering team is responsible for building and scaling the technology stack that powers our advertising business including advertiser experiences, ad serving platform and ad products. AFP-short for Assets, Formats, and Placements-is dedicated to maximizing advertiser outcomes by developing innovative, high-performing marketing products that boost both ad demand and supply. We're now looking for a Principal Staff Engineer to partner with the AFP leader in transforming marketing ads, driving higher ROI, breaking into new verticals, and enhancing personalized member experiences. This role requires a blend of technical vision and thought leadership, with the ability to inspire engineers as they tackle complex, end-to-end challenges. You will partner across the company with the entire Ads ecosystem as well as Media Infra, Flagship and internal customer support tooling. We are looking for highly motivated and self-driven individuals who are passionate in the areas of distributed systems and scalability, database design and development, experimentation, and API design. As a Principal Staff Software Engineer on the team, you will solve the following type of problems: • B2B Vertical Products Platform: B2B events product, growing over 53% YoY in revenue. In a TAM of $10B we are just starting to scratch the surface. Sponsored messaging has surpassed its delivery goals consistently. You will be guiding the team to reimagine a platform that follows “No need to write new code” philosophy, you will guide the team to experiment with tangible outcomes. • Architecture Evolution: We are quickly approaching a supply constrained environment. Adding more supply will lead to introducing undesirable marketplace dynamics. Identify expensive iterative modeling needs, use plug and play approach to experiment faster for baselining initial performance. Introduce higher level abstractions to simplify architecture as the teams are expanding in building vertical products. • Robust Creative Platform: Advertisers often struggle to find the right creative for the right audience. We have the opportunity to help our customers by providing innovative content generation mechanisms to produce highly relevant creatives to engage the audience. Responsibilities: • You will be the primary domain expert to influence technology choices • You will drive the adoption of cutting-edge solutions and methods to enable innovative marketing solutions products, like generative AI applications using Prompt engineering, RAG, EBR, fine tuning with LLMs. • You will build and ship software, drive architectural decisions and implementation across LMS teams. • You will actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies. • You will lead cross team/cross-functional discussions and drive alignment on product/technology strategy. • You will define the bar for quality and efficiency of software systems while balancing business impact, operational impact and cost benefits of design and architectural choices. • You will lead by example to build a culture of craftsmanship and innovation. Basic Qualifications: • BA/BS Degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience • 8+ years of programming experience in Java, C++, C# or similar programming languages • 8+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems, applications Preferred Qualifications: • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline. • 12+ years of relevant work experience. • Experience in working with ML/AI in consumer/enterprise facing products • Experience with strategic planning, executing on a long-term roadmap, team development and scaling processes to support business growth. • Experience designing and building infrastructure and backend services at internet scale. • Experience building and shipping high quality work while achieving high reliability. • Experience utilizing data and analysis in articulating technical problems and in arriving at recommendations and solutions. • Experience leading high-impact cross-org initiatives Suggested Skills: • Building large scale backend services • Technical Leadership • AI/ML expertise in product development You will Benefit from our Culture We strongly believe in the well-being of our employees and their families. The pay range for this role is $203,000 - $333,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations. The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
