This position will primarily support the overall DPS mission to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, administration, and staff. Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a “Campus Security Authority (CSA)” per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that they become aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer. This position is not eligible for VISA Sponsorship. Department Overview: Boise State University's Department of Public Safety is responsible for more than ”people safety.” In addition to university Security, our team includes the university's Emergency Management Department, Transportation (Shuttle buses and the Cycle Learning Center) and Parking, and Integrated Security Technology. Level Scope: Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Essential Functions: Public Safety Standard Employee Responsibilities ● Ensures customer service for the entire Department and campus community. ● Has knowledge of the Department, its employees, and how the department functions. ● Engages in Departmental problem-solving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement. ● Plans and coordinates a variety of special administrative projects and assignments. ● Renews job knowledge by reading professional journals, participating in education opportunities, and belonging to professional organizations. ● Represents the Department and the Division in select working groups, committees, and partnerships, both internal and external to the University. Develop and Manage New Technology ● Procure and maintain security and emergency management technical equipment and software. ● Maintain security policies and procedures in relation to security technology programs. ● Oversee video camera and monitoring systems including pre-installation consultation, installation and hardware maintenance. ● Develop and manage the integration of all security technology programs utilized by the University. Support and Integrate Existing Technology ● Manage Public Safety servers; security patches, performance monitoring. ● Manage Public Safety applications including software updates. ● Manage and troubleshoot alarm systems network and cellular communications. ● Diagnose and resolve security technology related problems. ● Manage and integrate the Universities alarms systems to include panic and intruder alarms, electronic card access, and security camera systems. Budget ● Oversees the Integrated Security Unit budget. ● Ensures that all state and university fiscal policies and procedures are strictly adhered to. ● Collaborate in the development, projection, and revision of the departmental budget. ● Reviews budget needs with the appropriate DPS personnel. ● Ensures inventory control and accountability for purchases including cameras and related supplies. Documentation, Training and Testing ● Assist in testing alarm systems including burglar, panic, and intrusion. ● Assist with testing lock down/lock out electronic doors. ● Train and support security staff dispatchers on all new and existing security systems. ● Provide documentation for all new and existing security systems to support Department of Public Safety staff. Technical Liaison ● As assigned by the Assistant Director of Public Safety Systems, support campus construction and security technology projects with Access Control and Security Camera recommendations for new construction. ● Working with the Public Safety security team to manage requests from departments for Integrated Security Technology requests including security systems, security cameras, and card readers. ● Assist Facilities Operations and Maintenance with cell communicators for support of fire alarm systems. ● As a key member of the DPS management team, serve on cross-functional teams and special projects, and other assignments as requested. May perform other duties as needed. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: ● Experience with electronic access control systems, IP camera systems, and alarm systems. ● Experience using Lenel OnGuard, Avigilon, and Manitou systems (preferred). ● Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and various University partners. ● Strong technical analysis and trouble-shooting skills. ● High level attention to detail and accuracy. ● Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to facilitate meetings. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's and 2 years of professional experience is similar type of work. Preferred Qualifications: ● A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. ● 3 years of experience working in IT and Integrated Security Technology. ● 1 year of experience managing new technology or 1 year of experience in Security Systems. Salary and Benefits: Salary range is $60,673.60 to $75,836.80 annually and is commensurate with experience.
