Staff Software Engineer, Data
Sift Stack, Inc.
Remote job
At Sift, we're redefining how modern machines are built, tested, and operated. Our platform gives engineers real-time observability over high-frequency telemetry-eliminating bottlenecks and enabling faster, more reliable development.

Founded by a team from SpaceX, Google, and Palantir, Sift is built for mission-critical systems where precision and scalability are non-negotiable.
As an early engineer focused on our data infrastructure, you won't just write code-you'll define core architecture and help scale a real-time telemetry platform from the ground up. You'll work on complex backend systems designed to ingest, store, and serve millions of high-frequency data points per second, enabling faster iteration cycles for some of the most advanced engineering teams in the world.
In This Role, You'll:

Hands-on experience with event-time-based stream processing or streaming SQL systems using tools like Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, Beam, or similar
Proficiency with relational and time-series databases like PostgreSQL, Druid, Pinot, TimescaleDB, or equivalent
Experience with large-scale distributed systems or low-latency backend services, ideally written in Go, Rust, or Python
Familiarity with DevOps and cloud infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Prometheus, ArgoCD, and Terraform
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
Bonus Points:
Familiarity with telemetry data from hardware systems, high-throughput ingest pipelines, or columnar storage formats like Apache Arrow and Parquet
Experience building resilient, performant systems that scale to billions of records
Curiosity about new data paradigms and eagerness to evaluate and integrate emerging tools and techniques
Engineering at Sift:
You'll join a tight-knit team of world-class engineers building foundational systems for next-gen machines. Technologies you'll work with may include:
Frontend & Backend: Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Protobuf, React, TypeScript
Data Infrastructure: Apache Arrow, DataFusion, Flink, Kafka, Parquet, Rust

Staff Software Engineer, AI Experiences
Gamma.App
Remote job
We're building the creative layer for modern communication. Every month, over a billion people make presentations - but the tools they use to make them haven't evolved in decades. We're changing that, using AI to disrupt a massive market.
📈 Millions of people rely on Gamma to create, teach, and persuade, creating more than 1 million gammas every day.
💻 We see Gamma as the next great workplace tool, combining viral B2C love with a massive B2B opportunity. We believe AI can be a true creative partner: one that understands context, clarity, and taste.
💸 We've reached a $2.1B valuation, crossed $100M in annual recurring revenue, and have been profitable since 2023.
💙 We're an imaginative, passionate team who takes our work seriously, but not ourselves. Our culture is warm, a little quirky, and fueled by curiosity.
About the role
You'll lead the strategy, planning, and execution of Gamma's AI Product Experiences, including our cutting‑edge deck generation that allows users to create presentations from a single prompt, our image generation and editing features, and Gamma Agent, our presentation assistant. This means shaping the future of how millions of users interact with AI to bring their ideas to life while establishing technical direction for our most ambitious AI initiatives.
As a Staff Engineer focused on AI Product Experiences, you'll balance hands‑on engineering with strategic leadership. You'll elevate engineering quality across the team through code review, design feedback, and mentorship while proactively identifying opportunities and misalignment within EPD. You'll bring both data‑driven rigor and strong intuition to decision‑making, designing systems that balance security, usability, and performance.
Our team has a strong in‑office culture and works in person 4-5 days per week in San Francisco. We love working together to stay creative and connected, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
What you'll do
Ship production code while maintaining strategic perspective, focusing on high‑leverage, architecturally challenging work
Partner with EM, PM, and cross‑functional leads to set the roadmap and drive technical decision‑making
Elevate engineering quality and effectiveness, setting technical direction and raising the bar through code review and mentorship
Proactively identify opportunities and misalignment within EPD and the roadmap, helping resolve them
Design systems that balance security, usability, and performance while building delightful user experiences
Operate in both data‑driven, hypothesis‑testing mode and act on strong intuition, switching back and forth effectively
What you'll bring
7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 1 year building with AI generative technologies (LLMs)
Prior experience working with CRDTs/YJS, LLMs and image models, WebSockets, and streaming
Familiarity with context engineering, agent development, and AI patterns (RAG, embeddings, sub‑agents, tool calling)
Deep expertise building complex, collaborative, real‑time web apps with TypeScript and React
Strong sense of craft with drive to build delightful experiences
Strong communication skills and experience influencing technical strategy across teams
High EQ with empathetic, reflective, self‑aware, growth mindset that actively promotes psychological safety for the team
Compensation range
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.
If you're interested in this role but you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway! We're always excited about meeting great people.
We're building on a full Typescript stack centered around some of the most modern and popular technologies.
We use our own custom, open‑source AI prompting framework, AIJSX. We have a lot of custom tools built in‑house, but also new ones like Vercel AI SDK.
Our tiny team operates at massive scale
1M+ users around the world
70M users
6M+ AI images generated daily
1 trillion LLM tokens processed per month
Life at Gamma
You get energy from small teams doing big things.
You love when design, code, and storytelling overlap.
You default to action, even when the answer isn't clear yet.
You value details, but know when to ship and move on.
You bring both the spreadsheets and the sparkle, equal parts workhorse and unicorn.
You believe AI should amplify creativity, not replace it.
You know kindness and intensity are not opposites.
You like working with people who care deeply: about their craft, their teammates, and the users on the other side of the screen.
Who we are
Gamma is full of imaginative, passionate people who take their work seriously but not themselves. The culture is warm, a little quirky, and fueled by curiosity. It's the kind of place where you'll debate a pixel on Monday, laugh over someone's keyboard setup on Tuesday, and ship something remarkable by Friday.
We care about craft, move with intention, and don't mind getting a little scrappy. It's fast, creative, and occasionally chaotic - but that's what makes it interesting.
Here's a bit about what it's like to work here, from people on the inside
“quirky, inspiring, fun, a little wild in the best way”
“You can have an idea and just run with it.”
“Everyone's talented and humble - the mix keeps you sharp.”
“We ship cool stuff, learn a ton, and laugh a lot doing it.”
Meet the team
We're a team of dreamers and doers building in beautiful San Francisco 🌉
We're kabbadi enthusiasts, pickleballers, dog herders, woodworkers, keyboard nerds, potters, and more - and we can't wait to meet you!
