Who are we?
Our mission is to scale intelligence to serve humanity. We're training and deploying frontier models for developers and enterprises who are building AI systems to power magical experiences like content generation, semantic search, RAG, and agents. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. We like to work hard and move fast to do what's best for our customers.
Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are passionate about their craft. Each person is one of the best in the world at what they do. We believe that a diverse range of perspectives is a requirement for building great products.
Join us on our mission and shape the future!
Why this role?
Our team is a fast-growing group of researchers and engineers focused on building reliable ML systems and pushing the boundaries of LLM inference efficiency. We develop techniques that improve how models execute in production, driving lower latency, higher throughput, and consistent quality across diverse workloads.
As an engineer on this team, you'll work across the inference stack to improve core performance metrics by diving deep into model execution, identifying bottlenecks, and developing innovative optimizations. You'll collaborate closely with modeling and systems teams to experiment, measure, and ship improvements that meaningfully accelerate inference. As the team evolves, you'll have opportunities to build expertise in advanced performance techniques, including GPU/CUDA optimizations, kernel-level improvements, and model execution strategies for MoE and large-scale architectures.
Please Note:
We have offices in Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco, New York, Paris, Seoul and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility. You'll find the Model Efficiency team concentrated in the EST and PST time zones, these are our preferred locations.
You may be a good fit for the Model Efficiency team if you have:
5+ years of experience writing high-performance, production-quality code
Strong programming skills in C++ or Python (Rust/Go also welcome)
Experience working with large language models and familiarity with the LLM inference ecosystem (e.g., vLLM, SGLang, etc.)
Ability to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks across the model execution stack
A strong bias for action - you ship fast, measure impact, and iterate
It's a big plus if you have experience with:
GPU programming, CUDA, or low-level systems optimization
Language modeling with transformers (MoE, speculative decoding, KV-cache optimizations)
Scaling performance-critical distributed systems (e.g., computation, search, storage)
If some of the above doesn't line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
Full-Time Employees at Cohere enjoy these Perks:
🤝 An open and inclusive culture and work environment
🧑 💻 Work closely with a team on the cutting edge of AI research
🍽 Weekly lunch stipend, in-office lunches & snacks
🦷 Full health and dental benefits, including a separate budget to take care of your mental health

About Us
Chakra Labs' mission is to encode human taste into intelligence. We source differentiated, proprietary data from end consumers - giving AI teams access to mission critical datasets for inference and post-training
Why you should work with us
You will get to touch the latest and greatest technologies across the data, AI, and infrastructure stack.
You will get mentored by an experienced and qualified team. Some of our people:
Nirmal Krishnan - CEO
Formerly: Microsoft, Hedge Fund, Head of Engineering at Artemis.
Alex Fung - CTO
Formerly: Snap for 5+ years (built Snap Map, led Snap's crypto efforts), Founding Engineer at TipLink
You will get paid a very competitive cash package with top benefits and a $30 daily meal stipend. We also provide a compelling equity package.
Why you shouldn't work with us
This is our life's work. We have fun, but we work hard. If you want to clock a 9-5, this probably isn't a great fit.
There's no clear playbook for success. Data and AI are constantly shifting. Adding in a distributed component in terms of sourcing labor - we are constantly learning and shifting. While we have a clear mission and vision, if you're uncomfortable with ambiguity this role will be challenging for you.
About You
You are user obsessed and love the small details. Hover shadows. Gradients. Getting the perfect margins and padding in components.
You don't have to know these front-end technologies, but they don't terrify you:
Next.js, Typescript, Tailwind
ShadCN
Prisma
WalletConnect
You love front-end, but you're comfortable thinking about the bigger picture. Making back-end changes. Spinning up a database. Playing with AWS to ensure a secure deployment. You don't need to be a subject matter experience here, but you are not easily intimidated.
Experience: we don't believe in hard and fast rules here. Roughly 3-5 years of experience is what we're looking for, but more or less experience works as long as the above expectations resonate with you.

TensorZero enables a data and learning flywheel for optimizing LLM applications: a feedback loop that turns production metrics and human feedback into smarter, faster, and cheaper models and agents.
Today, we provide an open-source stack for building industrial-grade LLM applications that unifies an LLM gateway, observability, optimization, evaluation, and experimentation. You can take what you need, adopt incrementally, and complement with other tools. Over time, these components enable you to set up a principled feedback loop for your LLM application. The data you collect is tied to your KPIs, ports across model providers, and compounds into a competitive advantage for your business.
Our vision is to automate much of LLM engineering. We're laying the foundation for that with open-source TensorZero. For example, with our data model and end-to-end workflow, we will be able to proactively suggest new variants (e.g. a new fine-tuned model), backtest it on historical data (e.g. using diverse techniques from reinforcement learning), enable a gradual, live A/B test, and repeat the process. With a tool like this, engineers can focus on higher-level workflows - deciding what data goes in and out of these models, how to measure success, which behaviors to incentivize and disincentivize, and so on - and leave the low-level implementation details to an automated system. This is the future we see for LLM engineering as a discipline.

Role
We are looking for a Member of Technical Staff with a background in front-end engineering. The vast majority of your work will be open source. You'll have an opportunity to continue to master your current skills with the flexibility to learn new ones from scratch.
As a preview, if you joined today, you'd take on our open-source UI that helps engineers manage the entire TensorZero operation - think of it like the AWS Console for TensorZero. The UI streamlines workflows for observability, optimization (e.g. fine-tuning), evaluations, and more.
Team & Culture
We're a small, deeply technical team based in NYC (in person). As an early contributor, you'll work closely with us and have a significant impact on the project's future and vision.

Passionate about your craft & design - You're excited about the idea of re-thinking developer tooling from first principles to build interfaces and workflows that don't just work but also delight.
Background in front-end SWE - We've started building POCs using Remix and Tailwind, but ultimately we're not experts in this area (for now!). You'll complement the team with a strong background and technical leadership (esp. React).
Hungry for personal growth - There are no speed limits at TensorZero. You're excited about learning and contributing across the stack.
In-person in NYC - We work in-person five days a week in NYC. We work hard and obsess about the craft - but maintain and encourage a healthy lifestyle with a long-term mindset.
