    Basis Ai

Member, technical staff job in New York, NY

About Basis Basis equips accountants with a team of AI agents to take on real workflows. We have hit product-market fit, have more demand than we can meet, and just raised $34m to scale at a speed that meets this moment. Built in New York City. Read more about Basis here. About the Team Atlas is Basis's internal agent team with a single mandate: make every employee 100× more productive. We're building the internal agents, automations, and knowledge systems that make Basis the first truly agent-native company. Atlas connects people, context, and tools-operationalizing knowledge so that Basis runs faster, learns faster, and scales intelligently. Our work spans Retool apps, Chrome extensions, internal APIs, MCP integrations, and developer tooling that empower every team. We design for leverage: when Atlas ships something, the entire company gets faster. About the Role As an Atlas Engineer at Basis, you'll own internal systems and agents end-to-end-from scoping to deployment. You'll act as the Responsible Party (RP) for your projects: identifying opportunities, designing automations, building the systems, and measuring their impact. You'll sit close to the work-talking with engineers, accounting teams, and operators to find bottlenecks-and you'll fix them fast. Sometimes that means writing code; other times it means wiring up low-code tools or shaping agent behavior through prompts and evals. You won't be managed-you'll be trusted to find the highest-leverage problems and solve them with speed, clarity, and craft. What you'll be doing: Build the systems that make Basis agent-native Design and ship internal agents for coding, ops, and knowledge management. Build and extend internal tools with Retool, custom scripts, or APIs. Integrate SaaS systems and internal data sources into unified workflows. Decide pragmatically when to code vs. configure-optimize for velocity and maintainability. Build connective tissue across teams Partner with engineering, operations, and accounting to understand how work actually happens. Map out bottlenecks and design systems that remove them permanently. Build lightweight internal products-CLI tools, Slack bots, Chrome extensions-that give teammates superpowers. Document what you build so others can extend it easily. Operate as an RP - plan, build, iterate Scope and plan your own projects with clarity; own timelines and decisions. Ship fast, instrument impact, and measure improvement. Run your own postmortems and refine processes as you go. Share learnings and frameworks that others can reuse across Basis. 📍 Location: NYC, Flatiron office. In-person team. What Success looks like in this role Owner: You identify, scope, and deliver automation projects independently. Integrator: Internal systems, data, and agents connect seamlessly through your work. Force multiplier: Each thing you build compounds leverage across the company. Simplifier: You replace friction with flow-making the complex legible and the slow fast. Builder: You operate with conviction, clarity, and care-improving Basis every week.
