What the role looks like
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll help accelerate our product's reach and retention by building the systems that power acquisition, activation, and monetization. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Within the Wind River Cloud team, we work with large-scale projects like Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack and fast-paced Open-Source technologies that are in high demand from our customers. Wind River Cloud has adopted these technologies into the core of our product, which is driving us to find experienced and high-performing individuals that can learn and contribute to these container and virtualization solutions. In addition, Wind River Cloud team is a leading contributor to the Open Source StarlingX cloud native project, to manage and maintain the critical infrastructure for highly distributed Edge solutions, including 5G, Autonomous Vehicles, Industrial Automation and Augmented Reality. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop software for a complete cloud infrastructure software stack.
* Develop high quality designs and code based on Kubernetes, containerized applications, distributed cloud systems, and cloud infrastructure management.
* Work as part of a team focused on containerization and fault tolerant/carrier grade development.
* Work with the most dynamic and exciting open-source software projects today - Kubernetes, OpenStack, KubeVirt, Helm, Ansible, Puppet, OSTree.
* Develop and deliver platform upgrade features with high quality design and code.
* Stay current with the latest advancements in OpenStack and related core. technologies, incorporating them into the platform where appropriate.
* Investigate and resolve issues reported during product verification
* Participate in all aspects of the software development process using agile development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's/ Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
* 5+ years of professional software development experience with Bachelor's
* 2+ years of programming experience with Python
* 2+ years of programming experience with C/C++ preferred
* 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
* 3+ years of professional experience in building infrastructure software for highly scalable and distributed systems.
* Deep understanding of OpenStack architecture and components, including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone, and others.
* Track record of building and delivering mission critical, 24x7 production software systems.
* Contribution to OpenStack community or related other open-source projects.
* Deep knowledge of Cloud storage solutions.
* Working knowledge in L2/L3 networking and OVS.
* C/C++ network programming.
* Experience with Debian packaging, OSTree.
* Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
* Passion for mentoring other developing engineers
* Strong analytical and debugging skills.

COMPENSATION:
The annual base salary range for this role's listed grade level is currently $147,200 to $190,000 plus a bonus for Cupertino, CA residents, and $170,600 to $215,000 plus a bonus for SF Bay, CA Area residents. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, and 12 paid holidays.
