TensorZero is an open-source stack for industrial-grade LLM applications. It unifies an LLM gateway, observability, optimization, evaluations, and experimentation.
See our GitHub repository to learn more.
Our ultimate goal is to enable LLM applications to learn from real-world experience. The current offering is the first step towards that vision: it enables a feedback loop for optimizing LLM applications, turning production data into smarter, faster, and cheaper models.
There are engineering teams building with TensorZero in all sorts of industries: healthcare, finance, recruiting, developer tools, consumer, etc.
Here's a case study: Automating Code Changelogs at a Large Bank with LLMs
Our technical team includes a former Rust compiler maintainer, machine learning researchers (Stanford, CMU, Oxford, Columbia) with thousands of citations, and the chief product officer of a decacorn startup.
We're backed by the same investors as leading open-source projects (e.g. ClickHouse, CockroachDB) and AI labs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic). We're lucky to have years of runway, giving us the flexibility to fully focus on open source for now with an ambitious long-term vision.
Role
We are looking for a Founding Member of Technical Staff who's hungry to learn and contribute across the stack. Early on, you'll work as a product engineer focused on the highest-impact user-facing features.
You'll work alongside and learn from experts in front-end (e.g. co-creator of Radix UI, React Router, RemixJS), back-end (e.g. ex-maintainer of the Rust compiler), and ML (e.g. researchers with thousands of citations).
The vast majority of your work will be open source. You can learn more about our technical roadmap and vision here.
Team & Culture
We're a small technical team based in NYC (in person). As an early contributor, you'll work closely with us and have a significant impact on the project's future and vision.
Viraj Mehta (Co-Founder & CTO) is an ML researcher with deep expertise in reinforcement learning, generative modeling, and LLMs. He received a PhD from CMU with an emphasis on data-efficient RL for nuclear fusion and LLMs, and previously worked in machine learning at KKR and a fintech startup. He holds a BS in math and an MS in computer science from Stanford.
Gabriel Bianconi (Co-Founder & CEO) was the chief product officer at Ondo Finance ($20B+ valuation) and previously spent years consulting on machine learning for companies ranging from early-stage tech startups to some of the largest financial firms. He holds BS and MS degrees in computer science from Stanford.
Aaron Hill (MTS) is a back-end engineer with deep expertise in Rust. He became one of the maintainers of the Rust compiler… while still in college. Later, he worked on back-end infrastructure at AWS and Svix. He's also an active contributor to many notable open-source Rust projects (e.g. Ruffle).
Andrew Jesson (MTS) is an ML researcher with deep expertise in Bayesian ML, causal inference, RL, and LLMs. He recently completed a postdoc at Columbia and previously received a PhD from Oxford, during which he interned at Meta. He has 3.3k+ citations and several first-author papers at NeurIPS and other top ML venues.
Kincaid O'Neil (MTS) is a full-stack engineer who previously founded Gathers, a consumer social startup that curated intimate in-person experiences. Before that, he built open-source payments infrastructure for the Interledger Protocol and worked at Coil, Ripple, and Kava.
█████ (incoming MTS) is an ML researcher with a background in causal inference, sequential decision making, uncertainty quantification, and algorithmic fairness (1.2k+ citations). Previously, he was an AI Research Lead at █████ and received a PhD in Statistics from CMU, during which he interned at █████ and █████.

Member of Technical Staff (Frontend)
Member, Technical Staff job 9 miles from West New York
We're hiring a Member of Technical Staff (Frontend) at Gitpod.
You'll build refined interactions and systems that make software development seamless. Working with React, Figma, and Go, you'll solve significant problems for global engineering teams. We're looking for highly ambitious and deeply passionate engineers who combine technical excellence with architectural taste, taking ownership of foundational systems to deliver pragmatic, performant and maintainable results. We deeply care about the product we build and are excited to add someone to the team that feels the same.
Who we are
Five years ago, we set out to create a world where every software engineer is instantly ready-to-code. With over 1.5 million users, we are now the leading platform for standardized and automated development environments. In 2024, we quadrupled enterprise revenue, signed several seven-figure contracts with F500 companies, launched our AI-first product architecture and, most importantly, discovered our authentic rhythm. In 2025, we amp up our ambition.
We're a talent-dense group of people who transform how software is created, working to empower every company, every team, and every individual to succeed in a software-first world. We care deeply, and for many of us, building Gitpod is our life's work.
This is the best time to join the company. We've found product-market-fit and are scaling with high intensity towards repeatable go-to-market fit. Our operating principles are an honest representation of how we build relationships and make decisions. We choose colleagues carefully based on merit and their authentic alignment with those principles. If this excites you, we would love for you to apply.
Role responsibilities
Our operating principles are the standard that we drive towards. We are collectively accountable for enhancing and preserving our culture in alignment with these principles and expect people to view this as a core responsibility within the scope of their role.
In addition, here are the main areas of focus:
Drive technical initiatives end-to-end. Balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability while maintaining high standards for reliability and simplicity.
Craft pixel-perfect components and refined interactions. Collaborate with product design to deliver impactful features that consider every facet of the user experience.
Own core Gitpod systems. Ensure reliability and continuous evolution of your focus area, whether frontend, backend, or infrastructure.
Elevate engineering best practices. Contribute to code reviews, architecture discussions, and documentation to raise overall quality and consistency
Solve high-impact technical challenges. Identify and address performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and developer experience improvements across the stack.
At the end of your first 30 days, you will have:
Ship code on day one using Gitpod to build Gitpod
Built deep understanding of Gitpod's core value proposition and architecture through hands-on contribution, user interviews, and key system analysis. Able to articulate main technical and business challenges.
Shipped multiple meaningful improvements across the stack, demonstrating ability to navigate our codebase, deployment processes, and engineering principles effectively
Established strong working relationships within your direct team and adjacent teams (e.g. Go-to-Market, Sales) through collaborative problem-solving and technical discussions. Started contributing to architecture and design discussions.
Shipped a feature that lands on our changelog and is demoed in All Hands
Opened the drawer and challenged the CTO on a design idea
About you
You work in alignment with our operating principles.
You drive pragmatic engineering excellence. You have strong technical judgment that helps you identify the right level of investment for each situation - knowing when to build for scale and when to optimize for speed. You consistently deliver high-quality solutions while remaining pragmatic about trade-offs. Most importantly, you're a generalist who can contribute effectively across our stack while bringing deep expertise in your chosen focus area.
You build high-impact systems. When building systems, you start by deeply understanding the problem space, the designing a solution. You have a track record of delivering outcomes that not only work well technically, but drive meaningful value for users and the business. You think holistically about the entire product experience including performance, documentation, user workflows, and operational concerns.
You lead through execution. You drive results through a combination of technical expertise, clear communication, and strong execution. You're comfortable taking ownership of complex problems and leading them through to completion, bringing others along through influence rather than authority. You have a proven track record of delivering significant technical initiatives while helping raise the bar for the entire engineering organization.
Additionally, we're looking for someone with most of the following:
Track record of shipping and owning production systems at scale
Experience working across the stack effectively
Evidence of pragmatic technical decision-making and leadership
Fast learner with demonstrated ability to pick up new technologies
