About The Position
The Engineer provides engineering support in all phases of maintenance, operations, design, and modifications at all Ameren Energy Centers.
Key responsibilities include:
* Perform engineering studies to improve Energy Center reliability, performance, efficiency, and safety.
* Perform field inspections, monitor operation, provide preventive maintenance recommendations, and provide information to optimize maintenance activities on assigned equipment.
* Implement various codes and standards to assure Energy Center is in compliance with local, state, and federal government regulations.
* Utilize Energy Center and outside resources as the System Owner for assigned equipment to implement continuous improvement.
* Optimize reliability and cost through the use of predictive technologies, PI system (Plant Information Monitoring and Data Storage System) industry associations and Energy Center personnel resources.
* Actively support various programs such as Plant Reliability Optimization (PRO) and the Corrective Action Program (CAP).
* Follow and support Design Control and other Quality Management System policies and procedures.
* Responsible for development of engineering solutions, estimates of cost and schedule, maintenance and repair specifications, in coordination and liaison with operating and maintenance groups at the Energy Centers.
* Responsible for the preparation of required reports, job requisitions, work orders, and other documents; maintenance of records; and revision of drawings.
* Implement Computer technologies to use Energy Center facilities in the most cost-effective manner.
* Interact with assigned system related vendors and other groups within Ameren Company.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable engineering discipline from an accredited college or university required. Energy Center experience preferred. Distributed control system and/or programmable logic control experience will be considered a plus for potential job candidates.
* Technical career path level depends upon applicant's credentials.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Good analytical, human relations, written and oral communication skills, and computer experience required. Ability to work overtime and take off-hour call-outs as necessary in order to support Energy Center operations is required. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs basic engineering duties necessary for the completion of the department's goals under close supervision of the Manager-Substation Engineering or designee. 2. Assists in review of shop drawings on equipment purchased for use in substations.
3. Assists in preparation of drawings for installation of equipment within substations.

5. Assists in the design of protection and control systems.
6. Assists in the developing of schematic, logic, and wiring drawings for connection of protection and control, SCADA and communications devices.
7. Assists in the analysis of various new materials as may be required to establish new approved material vendors or equipment suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering from a school with a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology is required. Electrical Engineering majors are preferred. No previous engineering experience is required.

Seeking a technically strong and collaborative Electrical Engineer to support the development, construction, and commissioning of conventional generation projects.
Reporting to the Manager - Conventional Generation Projects Engineering, the candidate has technical responsibility to support the development of conventional generation projects.
The engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Owner's Engineer (OE), EPC Contractors, Major Equipment Supplier, and internal Transmission & Substation (T&S) teams to ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and environmentally sound project delivery.
The engineer will assist with projects that are complex, multi-million-dollar capital projects with multi-year timeframes that span diverse disciplines.
The type of projects will include conventional generation including simple cycle combustion turbines, and combined cycle combustion turbines.
This candidate will provide engineering support to the development, construction and commissioning of electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities: Provide technical oversight to enforce contract requirements on EPC Contractors and Major Equipment Suppliers.
Coordinate with OE, EPC, Power Island Suppliers, and internal T&S teams to ensure project success.

DUTIES:
Under indirect and intermittent supervision, to do all levels of drafting work on which the general design has been established, on construction and rehabilitation projects on transmission substations, service buildings and other Company transmission properties; and to do related work as required. In the connection to perform details of work, such as:
Prepare finished drawings from preliminary designs, diagrams, layouts, sketches, notes, specifications, or verbal instructions.
Make study drawings, modify wiring drawings and assist with other electrical drawings in the development of a construction project.
Make simple calculations or use tables or determine wire sizes, conduit sizes, etc.
Make wiring diagrams from schematics.
Prepare schedules, bills of materials, etc.
Occasionally, check drawings of other Electrical Designer I or CAD Technicians.
Assist in department training program as a mentor, trainer or other assigned by supervision.
Occasionally, obtain detailed information in the field, usually accompanied by a Supervisor, Electrical Designer II or others.
Maintain and update information in the electronic drawing management system
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality and accuracy in updating and maintaining CAD drawings and to standards of the work he/she checks.
For care to prevent errors in field measurements taken by him/her.
Responsible for safe, prudent, efficient and effective use of Company resources.
Conduct self in efficient and effective manner.
CONTACTS:
Supervisors, engineers, construction personnel, other Company departments in connection with work performed, outside companies (if requested) in acquiring information for the maintenance of Ameren drawings.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily in an office environment, however when on field trips or assigned to a special on-site project they may be subject to the usual conditions existing in switchyards, substations or other buildings, and subject to outdoor weather conditions. When in the field the employee must wear personal protective equipment as required.
HAZARDS:
Subject to those hazards incidental to visiting construction projects, switchyards, substations and other buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Successfully pass the Company's EEI Technical Aptitude test. If an aptitude test is failed on the employee's initial effort, it may be retaken after a one-month waiting period, but not to be taken more than once per job posting. Only two retakes will be permitted.
Two years as a CAD Technician or three years outside the Company in CAD related work.
Satisfactory completion of an Associate's Degree in in design drafting, computer aided drafting or other drafting technology at an accredited university, college or junior college.
Satisfactory completion of at least 9 credit hours in the field of electrical design, electrical engineering or other study of electrical technology at an accredited university, college or junior college.
Successfully complete the department Electrical Designer I training program and score at least an 80% on the department Electrical Designer I evaluation.
Employees transferring from another department or new hires for this job classification shall complete the Electrical Designer I Training Evaluation within the first six (6) months of becoming an Electrical Designer I. Employees who do not score 80% or greater on the Electrical Designer I Training Evaluation shall be disqualified.
Ameren employees transferring from another department or new hires for this job classification who have taken Electrical AC/DC from an accredited college, University, or Junior College within the last two years may satisfy the Company AC/DC test with a score of 80% or greater. Job Description:
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The following represent the core purpose of the Engineer I - Electric Line classification. Higher-level classifications involve increased responsibility, a broader scope of work, and greater independence in decision-making, leadership, and/or technical complexity.
Under close supervision of the Manager-Electric Line Engineering or designee, performs basic engineering duties necessary for the completion of the department's goals. Engineer I is considered an entry-level engineering position. Most work will be initially performed under the mentorship of more experienced engineers. Progression towards more autonomous work performance will be expected as experience is gained in electric line design. Duties will be dependent upon departmental workload and may include any or all of the duties described below. This position may supervise Intern employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following represent the core responsibilities of the Engineer I - Electric Line classification. Higher-level classifications are expected to perform these functions with increased proficiency, autonomy, and ownership.
1. Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.
2. Designs of line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers, with assistance as required.
3. Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities, with assistance as required.
4. Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, whiteway lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects, with assistance as required.
5. Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects, with assistance as required.
6. May obtain construction permits from appropriate agencies.
7. Reviews, updates, and prepares electric construction standards with assistance as required. Prepares job drawings, material lists, cost estimates, and construction labor estimates.
8. Analyzes various new materials and processes and works with vendors and equipment suppliers, with assistance as required. Stays current on electric transmission and distribution technology including electric distribution automation software and systems. Determines control settings for electric distribution equipment (reclosers, regulators, capacitors, fault indicators, etc.).
9. Reviews electric plans for City and County projects to ensure compliance with Electric Service Standards, including compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code.
10. May assist with preparing contracts for bidding purposes as required to secure contractors to perform work on electrical system such as line construction, maintenance, and emergency rebuilds.
11. Assists in Outage Center or in field supervision for emergency work as required. This work may be during or after normal working hours.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology is required.
Experience:
Engineer I - Electric Line
Electrical engineering design experience is preferred but not required for this entry level position. In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline and applicable design experience who have an interest in acquiring training and experience necessary to perform overhead electric transmission/distribution design. Note: A BSEE degree is required to obtain the Engineer IV level.
Engineer II - Electric Line
A minimum of three years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience, OR four years of recent progressively responsible applicable engineering design experience is required. In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline with Missouri Professional Engineering (PE) certification, and a minimum of five years of recent progressively responsible design experience and an interest in acquiring the training and experience necessary to perform increasingly complex Electric Line design tasks are required. Note: A BSEE degree is required to obtain the Engineer IV level.
Engineer III - Electric Line
A minimum of five years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience, OR a minimum of seven years of other applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required. In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline with Missouri Professional Engineering (PE) certification, a minimum of seven years of recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience, and an interest in acquiring training and experience in electric transmission/distribution design is required. Note: A BSEE degree is required to obtain the Engineer IV level.
Engineer IV - Electric Line
A minimum of eight years of recent applicable and progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design OR a minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design and a minimum of seven years of other recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required.

Engineer I - Electric Line
A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred. A valid driver's license (minimum Class F) is required.
Engineer II - Electric Line
A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required. A valid driver's license (minimum Class F) is required.
Engineer III - Electric Line
A valid Missouri PE Registration Certificate is required; Individuals who have a PE license from another state may be hired at the Engineer III level but will be required to obtain Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) registration within twelve months to remain in that classification. Exceptional utility engineering experience beyond the minimum requirements may be considered in lieu of a PE license. A valid driver's license (minimum Class F) is required.
Engineer IV - Electric Line
A valid Missouri PE Registration Certificate is required. Individuals who hold a PE license from another state may be hired at the Engineer IV level but will be required to obtain Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) registration within twelve months to remain in that classification. About The Position
The Design Engineer performs detailed design and assembles modification packages for projects authorized by approved requests and/or provides technical support in the areas of testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, training and operation of plant equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements and consistent with high quality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
* Act as Project Manager of projects/modifications as required according to Corporate and Callaway Energy Center procedures and policies.
* Review designs completed by others for technical and programmatic acceptability.
* Perform cost/benefit evaluations of proposed design changes and perform assigned activities in a cost effective manner and in adherence to established budgets.
* Review conceptual designs with Operations, Maintenance, and affected departments to ensure operability, maintainability, constructability, and radiological considerations are factored into the design.
* Interface with Operations, architect/engineer and other plant personnel to identify and resolve design related problems impacting plan operation, including, but not limited to, evaluations, dispositions and designs related to Modification Requests and Requests for Resolution (RFRs). This work may include Calculations and Seismic II/I reviews.
* Oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of any outside architect/engineer and service organizations that may be used and recommended areas for potential improvement.
* Direct or monitor the testing, inspection and maintenance of plant equipment and systems, as required to ensure work is conducted in accordance with good engineering practices and that safety of the public and plant personnel is maintained.
* Prepare or review procedures covering the operation, testing, and maintenance of equipment.
* Review technical specifications and instruction manuals to determine testing and maintenance requirements of safety related equipment.
* Coordinate activities of various support and work groups in the development, tracking and implementation of modifications, to ensure schedules are met.
* Monitor modification work to assure installation meets quality and technical criteria, and is completed within work order authorization limits.
* Assume Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties in accordance with Callaway Energy Center Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) including responding to assigned ERO facilities within the required RERP response time.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required. Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer Registration preferred. Previous nuclear utility experience preferred. Power engineering and engineering design background preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Good leadership, decision making, communication and human relations skills required. Security screening required for Callaway Energy Center access.
Working Conditions
The Design Engineer works a standard day shift in an office/plant environment. Additional hours and/or rotating shifts may be required during refueling outages and emergent plant activities as the needs arise.
