A Driver Trainee will be trained by Republic Services to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) to then assume the responsibility of a Driver with our Company. Driver Trainees will complete a comprehensive training program and be given the resources to take the CDL examination. Once the Driver Trainee completes the program and obtains a CDL, the incumbent will be moved into a Driver position in one of the Company's lines of business, including but not limited to, Residential, Commercial, Industrial or Roll-Off. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Successfully complete Republic Services' CDL training program, which includes classroom study, on-route training, driving experience, and resources (including the loan of a truck) necessary to take and pass the state CDL examination. Complete twelve (12) full months of employment with Republic Services after obtaining a CDL. Learn to perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the assigned vehicle in accordance with Company policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges and controls are in proper working order. Report any safety issues on standard reports. Learn to safely operate a heavy or commercial truck along a designated route and to the disposal site; read route sheet, follow map and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by the dispatcher and/or supervisor. Learn to operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility. Learn to identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers in accordance with applicable departmental procedures. Learn to continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste. Continuously monitor the condition of any assigned vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip. Follow all required safety policies and procedures. After obtaining a CDL, perform all responsibilities of a Driver in one of the Company's lines of business (i.e., Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Roll-Off). Job Description Central Electric Power Cooperative has a summer opportunity for a Telecommunications Intern. Individuals interested in this position should be in the process of completing a degree in Industrial Technology, Networking Systems Technology or related field. Preference will be given to students with a focus on fiber optic and IP networks. This position will assist technicians with the splicing/placement of fiber optic systems, refreshing the Carrier Ethernet hardware, and general maintenance as part of the Transmission System Operations of Central Electric Power Cooperative. Additionally, duties will include numerous other field work activities and maintenance tasks. Supervision will be provided by experienced professional Telecommunications Technicians and will allow the successful candidate to grow in a well-rounded professional environment. Individuals will be required to work in the field on occasion and must be capable of lifting 75 to 100 pounds. The position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The intern will work under the direction of the Operations Superintendent and Results Lab Supervisor to learn power plant principles and power plant operations as well as gain knowledge of an industrial environment as it pertains to the power production industry by working closely with various trades. In a challenging and complex environment, the intern will gain valuable skills for working with a team of represented employees and managing the daily operations of a fossil-fueled power plant. The Intern will learn how the Results Lab supplies the plant with drinking water, and water to assist with firefighting. In addition, will learn about maintaining the boiler water & steam chemistry. The Intern will complete specific projects that may include water sampling, cooling water supply, lab analysis samples, monitoring chlorine levels, and documentation updates. Education/Experience required: Must be currently enrolled in school and have completed 45 college credit hours. Preferred educational area of focus is on fields of science such as chemistry, biology, or physical science. THE APPRENTICE TRAINING EXPERIENCE Republic Services Technical Institute offers a unique learning and development environment in which employees will gain on-the-job work experience while completing their technician education. Over the two (2) years of your apprenticeship, your training will start with nine (9) weeks of company-paid training at our brand-new state-of-the-art Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas. Successful graduates of the training program will continue with an additional twenty-two (22) months of on-the-job training (OJT) that includes mentorship and virtual instructor led technical content while working towards Apprentice certification as a Republic Services entry level Diesel Mechanic. We recognize that individuals may come with different levels of existing technical competencies and may advance through the program at a different pace. As such, individuals who demonstrate accelerated development and achieve the required milestones can move to a Level C Technician in advance of the twenty-two (22) month requirements. In addition to acquiring cutting-edge technical skills, the Technical Institute will teach critical life and leadership skills while building strong professional networks across the Company to set you up for a long-term career at Republic. Through participation in this innovative program, apprentice employees will be supported by your dedicated Mentor who will help you to reach the milestones needed to successfully complete your apprenticeship journey to move to a Level C Technician within the Company. Upon placement in one of our business units nationwide, you will receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and through completion of the Republic Preventative Maintenance Program and other on-the-job work completed during the apprenticeship, the apprentice receives hands-on experience that supports what they are learning in school.
