Memorial Hospital company history timeline

1963

The plans were announced in 1963 to add a seven-story addition on the south side of the hospital.

1964

In 1964, the name was changed to The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, making it possible for them to accept any men who wished to join.

1969

Again in 1969, the hospital was in need of an expansion.

1971

The building had been used as administrative office space since the School of Nursing closed in 1971.

1987

The lobby fell into disuse until it was incorporated into the Edward G. Miner Library as its reading room during an extensive renovation in 1987.

1990

In 1990, the hospital operations were assumed by the newly formed San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Corporation, a nonprofit public benefits entity.

1991

In 1991 the hospital celebrated its 40th birthday with a re-dedication to all who have died in wars since WWII. The word “Pass” was dropped from the name, and the facility became known as San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital (SGMH).

1999

In 1999, Lima Memorial Hospital celebrated 100 years of providing high-quality and innovative care to the Lima community.

2003

The 15,000-square-foot Women’s Center opened in 2003 with 10 patient beds, bringing the total number of beds at SGMH to 79.

2006

In March 2006, the community overwhelmingly passed a general obligation bond for $108 million that will fund the construction of a new emergency department and intensive care unit, helicopter pad, central plant, and other services.

2007

Construction of the much-needed San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital helipad is set to begin in April 2007.

2009

Construction on the hospital’s central plant began in late spring 2009.

2011

In Spring of 2011, Memorial Hospital broke ground for a 380,000,000 dollar expansion project.

2013

SGMH began to see patients in the new ED/ICU in spring 2013.
