A boiler Operator is in charge of shift operation of the Boiler House to maintain continuous steam supply to the Hospital for heat, hot water, sterilization and related uses. Keep current on all New Jersey Administrative Code updates Working knowledge and adherence of the Warren Hospital Standard Steam Plant Policy and Procedure manual. Operates and monitors all boilers and support systems. Assures that boilers, support systems and related equipment are operating properly. Makes connections, adjustments and/or repairs as necessary. Evaluates problems that may be encountered to determine their seriousness and corrects or reports to Chief Engineer. Notifies appropriate manager of major breakdowns or malfunctions and assists in completing repairs. Perform janitorial tasks, including mopping, cleaning restrooms, and sanitizing common areas. Ensure the safe use of cleaning products and follow all safety precautions. Report equipment malfunctions and cleaning supply needs to supervisors. Remove trash, clean shower rooms, and replenish lavatory supplies. Respond to customer needs and paging systems in a timely manner. Follow infection control and safety protocols to maintain a sanitary environment. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must possess a valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License (low pressure) issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work independently, and cooperate with co-workers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and stand/walk for extended periods. Must be able to work around cleaning products. Must live within the service area. Maintains a safe environment by staying alert to potential hazards like wet floors, blocked egress, and other unsafe conditions. Keeps work area clean, safe, and organized daily, following infection prevention and universal precautions. Provides excellent customer service, ensuring no substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff, or visitors. Uses proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries and proactively addresses environmental safety hazards. Locks and tags out unsafe equipment for repair and promptly reports it to the Facility Manager. Records and reports boiler operation data to the designated manager, ensuring all preventive maintenance is conducted on time. Complies with medical center and local fire safety codes, demonstrating knowledge of emergency response procedures and firefighting equipment. Uses the Facility Work Order System, follows "Lock Out - Tag Out" procedures, and assists with other facility tasks, including swing operator duties at the main hospital. Required Skilled and Experience: Education - High School Diploma / GED Experience - Ability to operate high pressure boiler systems. Recommended is a minimum three years' experience in operating high-pressure boilers. Licensure - A clean valid NYS Driver's license. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to lift objects. The physical ability to rapidly respond to equipment failures within the plant is required.
